Hello everyone, it's been a very long time since I've written anything up here, but I'm having issues. My 610n v2 seems to be having issues with laptops connecting quickly. Right now I'm on build std-usb-nas - build 15962. Once I try to connect for the first time, it can go as long as 5 minutes to connect to the router. I was not having this issue before I unplugged and had to reflash my router. Now it is consistent. Any veteran gurus out there want to help me out? I've been seeing something about "kong" builds. What is that and does it work well? How's it going redhawk0, Murrkf, LOM,barryware, and all you others I have not seen in a long time.[/b]

Well Kong builds are optimized for speed and imho they perform pretty well (except some VPN issues in builds after 18050M).

You could convert a WRT610N V2 into an E3000, the difference is in amount of NVRAM.

It's really easy to convert a WRT610N v2 into an E3000 and any of the Tomato builds work extremely well on it. I've done several.

So you guys are saying it would be worth it to change my 610n v2 to an E3000? What would be the advantages, is what I'm trying to figure out? Confused

The advantage is that it will give you 60k nvram as opposed to 32k nvram you have now without the conversion.

I was trying to find where to do this to my router, but can't seem to find it. Anyone mind pointing me in the right direction?

15962 imo is still the best build to date. The firmware is not causing your problem.

Silly question but you did completely clear nvram and reconfigure?

As discussed earlier.. There are no drawbacks if you decide to convert your V2 into an E3000. The diff is the amount of nvram available (32k vs 60k). It has been proven that 32k nvram is just not enough for dual radio routers.

Once you convert though... your router will be an e3000 in all respects so you can no longer flash builds for 32k routers and if you flash stock firmware, it must be an e3000 build.

You didn't provide any detail in regard to your radio parameters.. Which band, encryption, etc..

I think that clearing nvram and a reconfigure should be the 1st thing you do.

That's the first thing that I did and always do with my router before messing with anything. Hard Reset 30/30/30 before loading or reloading firmware to make sure I'm starting from scratch. Unless I'm doing it wrong. The 610N v2 does have a power switch, but I always keep it on and pull the plug instead. What would you suggest sir? Also I think I'm going to convert to an E3000. It sounds like that would be the best thing to do in general. Wink

I was having issues in general with just one laptop not getting internet access on either band. That is what was baffling me. I had to short pin the router last night because I stupidly loaded a non K26 firmware. "IDIOT"!!! But all is well as of right now. All lappies connecting and other devices also. But I'm still going to convert to the E3000. Why not right?

make sure something hasn't changed in your environment.. Not long ago I was chasing a problem and it turned out to be the blue-tooth in my ipod cuz I set it down real close to the router (I suspect). When I moved the ipod, everything cleared up.

before you run the convert, maybe flash back to stock for testing and see if you still have the problem.

Sorry, I was asking do you really think that I should go back to stock Linksys firmware before doing the transition to E3000? Everything as of right now is working flawlessly with build BS 14929 mini 610nv2. Which 15962 build should I use once converted? Anything with usb and what's your opinion on ipv6? I guess you would have to set ipv6 up manually, which I have not done before or is it even that important?
