Hey all,

Just purchased a refurbed e4200 and read through some threads on it. Is this still the most current build and information as per the locked 48 page thread on this router?

Quote:
BS 18000 or Eko 17990 build should be used on this router. All previous builds that can work on this router had problems. However, please note that some users are reporting problems with SSH and possibly Samba, especially if they don't do a proper hard reset before and after flashing.

ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2011/12-12-11-r18000/

Be SURE you understand how builds work and which build to flash. Follow the WIKI initially and THEN upgrade to a NV60 build. READ THE PEACOCK ANNOUNCEMENT. If you don't fully understand what you are doing, you will brick your router.

Anything else I should know?

Thanks all

make sure it is a v1. see:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=661393&highlight=#661393
if it is a v2, it is a no go. marvell chipset is not supported in dd-wrt.

A helpful resource for the E4200 when planning on using the DD-WRT firmware:

http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linksys_E4200

I run the E4200 as my primary router and have been very pleased with it.

I have Smile

Is 18000 still the recommended build for this router? Im looking for stability.

And so im clear, any and all builds used after the intial flash MUST be nv60 correct?

Thanks

Stability is a relative term for newer routers...depends on what you need it to do. I updated to build 18777 on my e4200 a month ago and it is "stable". I find the WiFi on this build is very stable for both 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz.

The biggest thing for stability is to follow the flashing directions and do the 30/30/30 reset correctly (before and after a flash of new firmware).

However, there are some outlying issues if you are wanting to do extra things like mount a drive for optware or do DYDNS (and others that I forget).

Router just came in. How can I verify its V1? I checked the router itself and see no indication either way.

if it does not state V2 after the model number (E4200), then it is a V1.

also the serial number(s).

Prefix = 01C10C = V1

01C106 or 01C136 = V2

Vaako -

I never could get it to connect at anything more than 300Mbps using a DD-WRT build back in 2011.

If it's been fixed I'll be moving off stock and back to DD-WRT. There were some significant 5Ghz issues back in '11 on the e4200 that impacted reliaiblity.

I have my e4200 setup on 5ghz 450mb.. at least thats what inssider states. I use the 40mhz width and ch 161. No problems so far, had it running this way for about 2 months. i'm using the 03/19/12 initial flash mini build. since everything including DDNS is working for me i decided to leave well enough alone and not upgrade.

Most of the time - if you are using the 5Ghz band with these units and only have a 2x2 client adapter, than yes - 300mbps link is all you are going to get..

@jprez1980
How do you go from DD-WRT to Linksys Stock Firmware, just re-flash with Linksys stock firmware?

@rsoares28
I wil try the build you mention from BrainSlayer 03-19-12-r18777 and report my findngs here.

@buddee
My client is 3x3 TX & RX (most clients are 2x2 TX and 3x3 RX)
With Linksys stock firmware it connencts on 450Mb/s full speed !!!!

I just have tested BrainSlayer build DD-WRT v24-sp2 (07/20/12) std-usb-nas (SVN revision 19519)

On 2.4GHz only 144Mb/s - (no 300Mb/s) Sad

On 5GHz at channel 161 and 40MHz channel width - Wireless Network Mode (N-Only 5GHz)
I achieve to connect at 450Mb/s Very Happy

(thx to rsoares28)
