I don't know if this also helps, but the network cable connected to the WAN does not light up in the modem side, meaning that probably the port is actually not working at all.

If I flash back to stock, it lights up again, and I have WAN access...

I am worried that I don't see eth1 as a hardware device. Please post ifconfig -a.

Please any other user who has TL-WR1043ND post your ifconfig so that we see if eth1 has to show up or no.

I don't know if I am on a right track or not, developers must say. Regardless of that it could help if any of you may disassemble the router and post pictures of board so that it is compared to the known one. Please also post what is written on the electronics.

I still haven't had the time to do another flash and test.

From what I saw in other forums is possibly due to the fact that

The driver for the WAN is not being properly loaded.

OR

The bootloader is shutting down the eth1 before dd-wrt boots.

OK. Departing from this, what can we, common mortals, do?

Ok guys these steps worked for me.

1. Revert back to TP-Link firmware. wr1043nv1_en_3_9_17-sysupgrade.bin

2. Flash with this German firmware wr1043nv1_de_3_9_17_up_boot(100331).bin

3. Flash with gargoyle_1……-ar71xx-tl-wr1043nd-v1-squashfs-factory.bin

Now the WAN port will work. If anybody needs a link to the wr1043nv1_de_3_9_17_up_boot(100331).bin firmware..I would be happy to upload to dropbox.

OK People... I solved it!!!!!

Following the advice from Gizmo64

Here's what I did:

1) Flashed back to stock using the bin provided here:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=85237&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=8

2) Flashed German Version of the original stock downloadable at:
http://narod.ru/disk/37622290001/wr1043nv1_de_3_9_17_up_boot(100331).bin.html

3) Flashed dd-wrt version 18777

Now WAN is working and this post is being made through it

Now WAN port is working with build 18777, however I couldn't use WAN as a DHCP client.

I cloned my PC configs to be able to connect to Internet, but it really seems a workaround.

Anyone has any idea how to make it work?
