Cracked the case on mine today and found the following:

CPU:
Broadcom Processor

BCM5357C0KFBG
HE1215 P30
197931 01B W

Interesting that it's a "C" variant--most websites report BCM5357B0KFBG.

Here's the interesting find:

A tiny (very small) chip adjacent to the Broadcom. Letters SO small I needed the right light to even try to make them out.

MXIC MX
25L64O6E
M2I-I2G
3J949500
L120583

Google turns this up:

64MB Macronix MX25L6406E Flash chip???
IC FLASH SERIAL 64MB 86MHZ 8SOP
http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/MX25L6406EM2I-12G/1092-1124-ND/2744807

MX25L6406EM2I-12G

What does this mean?

Thanks,
Paul

Not supported? I had believed that overclocking is supported for all Broadcom chips.

Why is it not supported? Is it the mini build, or is the Asus hardware?

Why?

Can you be more specific?

What puzzles me is that there is (allegedly) an 8MB chip under the large metal heatsink / shield.

Why is there this tiny, tiny 64MB chip on the motherboard?

Many, many questions. . .

Meethinks that Asus has circuit boards built for multiple platforms.

Or the assemblymen in China get crazy ideas every now and then.

May be a just prior to the release of the C1. C1 isn't supported yet, so likely that proc may not be supported yet. If you know how to, you could post the boot log.

I've been looking for some time now how to read, recover, or acquire the boot log. Any pointers?

I updated the photo to be more polite and inline with forum rules.

Upon further reading and further consideration, I believe the dd-wrt wiki is incorrect (supported devices).

B1 version have 8MB of flash.
B1 version have 8MB of flash.

What that other, smaller chip is for, I do not know.

I fired up the D300 and mounted it to a tripod for better photos of the Asus RT-N12B1.

Is that a JTAG port I spy?

that little chip is the flash chip. an spi serial chip. 64mbit = 8mbyte

the chip that is allegedly under the metal cover, is the ram chip. Winbond W9425G6JH-5
