To put it simply, when looking for newer builds in the dd-wrt file server, just look in the build number's folder in question, find the broadcom folder, and always use the 'dd-wrt.v24_mega_wrt610n.bin' to upgrade with and you should be good to go.
I have been curious of the same thing. I currently have Mega Build 17201 on my WRT610N V1. Works flawlessly, EXCEPT samba shares do not work. Can't figure out why. I have read that build 17201 had issues with the nmbd process not running (or something like that... ). FTP works fine, just not samba.
im using what he posted and had 0 problems thnx again!! what is samba?
Basically Samba is a cross-platform network protocol that allows for file shares, printers, etc. Its mainly used to create file shares on linux systems that windows users can access (though it has many other awesome uses).
I have heard horror stories with the WRT610N with certain builds. My router has been 100% stable for over a year with my build, but now I want a Samba share. Apparently this build has issues with it. Can anyone recommend a 100% stable build WITH working samba for this router (without the use of optware, I want to just use the build in samba).
I'd go to the 14XXX builds that people suggest, but my N-radio was too finicky.

More info on these matters are in the announcements, i recommend you take a read into them.
Hi, I would like to have some clarification on some points related to your reply and this entire post.
I currently have a WRT610N V1 at home. I was working fine with 14929 mega k26, but as I could not make the dual band work (2.4 or 5GHz band, wl1) I decided to upgrade the firmware. I am very acknowledged to the procedure, including 30/30/30 reset as listed in the Peackock thread.
I succesfully installed 15962 k26, but after a few hours wl1 stopped working. A reset bricked the router (some had reported this issue), so I went into recovering it using the console management.
As I found that some report k24 is more stable, I flashed first the trailed build, but after that, I could not flash the generic firmware for k24.
I then decided to flash again k26, and the flash worked.
Over the many trials and flashing, the main problem was wl1 not appearing in the Wireless tab.
So, I have a couple of questions.
I have read that trailed builds are for initial flashing only, and from there, you should flash the generic firmware. But according to you post, while using k24 builds I shall maintain the trailed build (which is consistent with what happened to my router).
Can you confirm?
Also, is it possible to downgrade/upgrade from a k26 into a k24?
For this specific router, which kernel version would you recomend, k26 or k24?

If you read over the thread carefully enough, your questions are answered. But i'll go ahead again for review..
Yes, use the k2.4 trailed build for this unit, because it uses a NEWD core, but uses NEWD-2 wireless drivers from what i understand, and since Brainslayer doesn't make k2.4 NEWD2 builds (only eko does) you'd need to use the trailed build from Brainslayer's builds to upgrade to and fro newer or older builds. And i stated earlier, IMHO - k2.4 builds are somewhat more stable than k2.6, that's just in my testings with them. _________________ Wireless N Config | Linking Routers | DD-WRT Wiki | DD-WRT Builds | Peacock - Broadcom FAQ

Have tried using various recommended builds (all 2.4) including 14929 and 15962, trailed and generic. Upgrading from a previously flashed router to a trailed build hasn't worked (Update failed), and generic builds have resulted in no WLAN connectivity and intermittent LAN.
So am now settled on 2.4 Mega 13064, which has been stable for me, and gives me dual band too...I don't use NAS, Samba etc so cant speak for those features.

I have the WRT610Nv1 and it is hard to know what firmware version to use. I use svn18946 mini and both radios are recognized and it's very stable. I tried upgrading/changing to newer versions of BrainSlayers firmware (non SVN) and I could load the hardware specific 610n mega version but wifi speeds slowed down considerably. And I've found that SVN is the only mini version I can use.
When I did try to load BrainSlayer (not SVN) mini versions I found that the 5GHz radio was not recognized that I couldn't get out to the internet at all. So I wanted to load newer SVN versions but svn18946 is the newest I found on the ftp server. The mini version I loaded did perform better in wifi tests than the stock Linksys firmware and DD-WRT does not have the WPS wifi vulnerability of the stock firmware.
I getting my used wrt610n v1 next week and want to use it as bridge. I am not sure which version to use , just that i have to flash it with 610n because of the header from stock firmware.
Now i found your post, so what i know is that the "dd-wrt.v24-18946_big-wrt610n" with the k24 kernel is the right choice to get from stock to dd wrt.
but then i have read most recomment the k24 firmware, should be more stable and i found the 02-11-2013-r20675-dd-wrt.v24_mega_wrt610n
with a newer releasenumber. so what is the right choice?
and what is the correct file for the wrt610n v1 !! + k 2.6 ???
?? dd-wrt.v24-18946_NEWD-2_K2.6_big-nv64k.bin
?? dd-wrt.v24-18946_NEWD-2_K2.6_big-nv60k.bin
?? dd-wrt.v24-18946_NEWD-2_K2.6_big.bin

dont know the differences.

Depends on what you want to run, i bolded what you aren't clear on, you read that k2.4 is more stable and you found the 20675 build, so is that what you want to use? or do you want to use k2.6 build altogether? you never are clear on what you want to run... and keep in mind with this unit, you can use either k2.4 or k2.6, so the choice is up to you. _________________ Wireless N Config | Linking Routers | DD-WRT Wiki | DD-WRT Builds | Peacock - Broadcom FAQ
I have a remote site that has a 2 router set-up, gateway (E3000 in AP mode 5Ghz & 2.4Ghz) and bridge (wrt610v1 in repeater-bride mode 5Ghz & AP mode 2.4Ghz). Both where running B.S Build 15962 with solid wireless performance for over 2 years. Both are using 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz radios. The 5Ghz radios are the network's backbone.
A couple of days ago I updated both routers to newer builds, E3000 is running K26 VPNKONG Build 20575 and WRT610v1 is running K24 B.S. Build 20548 mega wrt610. The newer builds have been running for only 2 days.
The only problem I have run into is with the E3000, I'm using syslogs but the newer build is broken. When I have time I will try VPNKONG Build 20780 that has an updated busybox and I'll see if it's fixed.
As for overclocking, it's not needed for a bridge router and I would not recommended it. _________________ Home Network on Telus 1Gb PureFibre - 10GbE Copper Backbone
