I have the following on my E3000 currently
DD-WRT v24-sp2 (04/11/11) big
(SVN revision 16773M NEWD-2 K2.6 Eko)

Trying to go to:
5.4 MB 12/24/10 12:00:00 AM
dd-wrt.v24-15962_NEWD-2_K2.6_std_usb_nas-e2k-e3k.bin

I did a hard reset and restored to defaults, but when I change firmware it stays at the 16773. Im clearly missing something. Can anyone shed some light

flash back to stock, or use the build that has e3000 in the name:

I forgot that the newer builds (nv60k), have protection in them to keep people from bricking their routers by flashing the wrong build.

hey barry, we meet again.

Is the e3000 and the e2k-e3k the same except the nv portion? I am interested in getting the most stability I can, which is why this one was appealing. Thanks

I'll try to explain..

Anytime you flash from stock firmware, you need to use a trailed build.. Trailed is a name we made up. It means that the name if the router is part of the file name. In your case, the file will have e3000 as part of the name.

1st, there were only two routers that had 60k of nvram.. nvram is where the settings are stored. The linksys e2000, and linksys e3000. Both routers needed the appropriate trailed build to flash dd-wrt from stock firmware.

after that, you could use any build the router supported.. "supported" is the key word.

So.. e2k ~ e3k builds were invented. So after dd-wrt was on the router, if you had either an e2000 (e2k) or an e3000 (e3k), you could use the builds marked as e2k ~ e3k.

Since, there are more routers that have 60k nvram, and as of late, some have 64k.

That is when nv60k was invented. Shortly after that, it was realized that many were bricking their routers by flashing the wrong builds. Not because they were named wrong, but because the user didn't really know what they were flashing.

so.. somewhere around 16xxx builds, checks were put into the firmware in an attempt to keep users from bricking their router.

in your case.. you have a 16xxx+ build on your router and the e2k~e3k build I linked you to will not pass the check.

Soooooo... if you want to flash back to a lower build number, you have to flash back to stock 1st, then use the trailed 15962 build to load dd-wrt, or just flash the trailed build (e3000 in the name).

Stock & trailed have headers in the firmware that should allow it to flash from the 16xxx gui.

15962 is stable as a rock .. You will be fine. Others .. depends on what you are doing. There are some that will swear by the later builds and some that will not touch them with a 10 foot pole.

I come in the latter group..
