interesting...

If you are really going to purchase one, you can go by the serial number that is on the box. It will also have the mac(s) stated on the same lable..

01C10C = a V1
01C106 = a V2

yep this is BS, so i contacted newegg, told them my situation and they rma'ed it and sent me it back. I got the package today and it's a V2!!! wtf...if they would just look @ the first five characters of the serial on the box they would know if it's a V1 or V2, i told this to them, they obviously didn't listen!!!

01C106 is the V2 router
01C10C is the V1 router

get it right newegg...i'm frustrated!!!

If anyone has a V2 that they would like to trade for a V1, I would be interested. I do not really have much use for DD-WRT (I tried it out on my V1, and went back to stock) but would appreciate the faster processor of the V2. So if you are interested in trading let me know!

I also bought a E4200V2 that was in an E4200 box.

The box is EXACTLY the same as the E4200 and it even states that it is 300 + 450 mbps.

I thought I had an E4200V1 for awhile until I went into the guest feature and I saw up to 50 guests! That was a dead give away that I had a V2. Other differences I've noticed are:

-My serial number starts with: 01C106

-Model number says E4200V2

-FCCID is Q87-E4200V2

-Has a low profile(?) power adapter

-CD says version 2

I personally don't care because I never planned to flash it with DD-WRT. But from what I can tell the V2 WILL NEVER be supported.

So why are E4200V2's coming in E4200 boxes?

At this point I can assume they had E4200V2's rolling off the production line but they did not have the V2 boxes ready. Since the V2's fit in the V1's boxes they just decided to ship them in that until they got the proper boxes.

@ghex: I suggest you make a forum post on http://www.eggxpert.com they have high level Newegg CSR's that go on the forum. If you call Newegg they will probably tell you that they do not guarantee what version of the product you get. This case is different though because they clearly advertise the different versions.

Have the SN 01C106 and v2 cd, but max guest is still 10 and not 50.

I got one from Fry's Electronics. The front of the box has N750 on it (same box as a V1), but when I opened it I found a V2 in the box.

Funny thing is that this Fry's sells both the V2 (says N900) on the box for $199 alongside the V2s in the V1 box for $159.

I just bought a sealed new in box E4200 from a guy on Craigslist who claimed it was a V1, but when I opened it I found its a V2. It is in a V1 box, and I even glanced at the serial number when he handed it to me but I guess I looked at it incorrectly and confused myself. Whats weird is this one has a 01C136 serial which I think is what threw me off. Anyways, looks like I'm stuck with this thing unless anyone would like to trade me for a v1 Razz

It appears that some E4200v2 units have a serial number that starts with 01C136 as well.
