Hi,

Just found my unused WRT54GC V3. So I did take it apart.

I was surprised.

As I did know openwrt/dd-wrt was never ported to it because it has Marvell chip.

Might be that my router is an easter egg, but it has Broadcom chip. Tomorrow I'll attach some photos as well.

Chip details :

Broadcom
BCM5354KFBG
HA0831 P13
879747 N2

JP1 printing next to an unpopulated 12 solder-point group could be JTAG port?

Cannot wait till the morning. Smile

Additional info - never noticed before.

Seems that V3 has to have >1MB flash as the official firmware is 1.36 MB. Smile

Photos in a minute.

Well, admins, experts, I can imagine that making a firmware is not pushing the "make firmware" button. But could someone tutor me?

can't make out the chip numbers in your pics..

what is the number of the ram chip on the bottom of the board?

what is the number of the 8 pin serial flash chip that is between the processor and the front of the board. It should have a paint dot on it.

In 2008, that was the days of the V5 ~ V8 routers. They were running vxworks, not linux. That would mean that some type of killer would need to be developed.

only an opinion but I don't think anyone will spend the time porting a 4 year old router.

you are going to have to use serial to get a boot log to see what os it is running. Maybe with a little help from jtag and serial, you can use something for a diff router..

that is the same processor as used on the 54g v7.2, 8, 8.1 ,8.2, 54G2 v1, and v1.3

All the routers mentioned above all had parallel flash chips, not serial. That may be a problem.

Photography isn't my strongest skill...

RAM chip reading :

EM638165TS-6G
M085910P739208.11YM
ETRONTECH

Flash chip later, I don't have a magnifier, and the letters are too small...

well.. that is 8MB ram. I'll bet the flash is 2MB.

So if you can grab the boot output and get the rest of the needed info, maybe you can flash it (via jtag) like it was a V8. (big maybe though). The radio has one amp and one antenna (checking the fcc site).. All the other linksys routers similar have two amps and antennas.

There are 2 8 legged pieces, one easy to read :

CAT7105CA
LC1CE32 (?)

The second is hard to read even with magnifier...

MX 128(?)

25L16050M21
5X75490A

The above chip is not 100% markings on the sides are shaded out, and too small...Anzway does it make sense?

I did get some solderable pins for the console cable. How could I identify witch hole is +/-/tx/rx? Back of the panel top of picture.

I just opened up a linksys wrt54gc. It does not look like
the one this post is about, which I guess is newer.

I peeled off the heat sink. The processor is a marvell 88w8510 which this data flyer:

says uses an ARM embedded cpu.

The guy on google code has evidently begun a hack based on this information.

Data sheets on the other parts are easily found with google.
