Alright here is the deal. I live in a apartment complex that has free WIFI and all the rooms are networked with Ethernet. The problem is the WIFI always always cuts in and out. And not only that but it is slow, but the Ethernet is throwing 14 megs down!!!! So I want to hook up my own wireless router to get a better connection and better upload/download. The problem is when I hook up this router I get "local only." Do I selection a "diagnose and repair" option and it said something about the DNS. Does anyone have a solution. Would I have to configure a PPPoE connection? I believe the routers the apartment complex is using are Netgear. Can somebody PLEASE help me! Long Ethernet cables going across the apartment needs to come to an END!!!! I will pay $50 to whom ever gives me a winning solution via PayPal!

Need to see the Status -> WAN screen as well.
Also, what I can see from some of the pics is that the IP address range when connected directly to the apartment LAN is the same IP address range when you are connected to your router (both being in the 192.168.1.x range). You need to go to the setup tab on your router and change your LAN IP range from 192.168.1.x to 192.168.2.x by changing your router's IP address to 192.168.2.1, Save & Apply settings.
Your pc will need to grab a new IP address from your router in this new IP range and once that is done you should be able to get out to the internet with your router connected to the apartment network. _________________ (05/02/17) std - 31924

Alright, I got an internet connection and it was quick. Then I changed the network to hidden because we aren't supposed to have routers... So then the connection got slow, from 14 megs down to 1.5 megs... What would cause that? Can I not hide the network without losing performance? _________________ WRT54Gs running on Mega-Vintage

Thank you very much for all the input. I did infact figure out what was going on with the performance issue. The complex I live in is using a junk Netgear switch to hard wire all the apartments running 10/100, not gigabit. So in the evening when everyone is using the internet and downloading, the switch can't handle it all, driving the PING from 35 or so to 230+, and then of course the upload/download performance is just about killed.. ha _________________ WRT54Gs running on Mega-Vintage
