Hi All,

I will attempt to explain this as clearly as possible. I am using a WRT310N v1 (DDWRT 14929) to get on the Wifi my landlord provides and then turn it into a separate network. Only a few days ago I had Client mode working perfectly (and after that Repeater mode in order to boost the Wifi signal, still perfect). After my router lost power one night, the connection was lost. When I access the Admin panel and check the wireless status I notice that the wifi keeps connecting and dropping without ever obtaining an IP. The wireless channel will scan, land on 6, connect and then drop and repeat.

Now I can get "Client Bridge" to work, just not simple client. I've done full resets, tried different firmware versions, moved the router around and nothing. Client Bridge always works, never just client. I even had a backup of the setting and restore that never helped either.

Also I can get "Repeater Bridge" to partially work, as soon as I add a Virtual Interface to boost the Wifi I start getting garbage 169 IPs. So I can't even settle with that much and just accept being on the same network as my neighbours.

If anyone can help or has ever experienced anything similar let me know. Maybe I just need to replace the unit?

THANKS!

While I was hopeful that would help, the issues remain the same, client and repeater mode can't maintain a connection while either in bridge mode can.

did you do a hard reset before configuring the Repeater/Client mode...if you went right from RB/CB mode to R/C it won't work....there are parameters that don't get reenabled until you clear it out and start from scratch.

post pictures of your.

Setup>>Basic
Wireless><Basic
Wireless>>security
Wireless>>Advanced
Security>>Firewall
Service>>Services
Administration>>Maintenance

tabs...I'll see if I can figure out what's going on.

Also tell me what your SSID is of the host AP router you're connecting to.

The name of the SSID is Personal, the one I make is just called Home. I can give the repeated signal WEP security and it'll work, using WPA on the VI give a 169 ip. Either way (even when doing a herd reset) I can get plain Client or Repeater modes to work, the screenshot above are from my most recent attempt at getting Client to work.

Thanks for your help.

If you want to get repeater to work we need to see screenshots of repeated. Post the screensots of the second router including your basic setup and basic status pages. You have no wan ip.

This is Client mode and should be fine. I see you're connecting to an AP called "Personal"....try turning off the IPV6 on your Administration panel, and turn off the WMM support on the wireless advanced tab.

You might also want to try updating back to 14929 build....14929 works fine on this model.

One last thing...what is the base IP address for the host unit...if its anything other than 192.168.1.1....then your ok...but if its on the 192.168.1.1 address....you need to change this radio to something else...like 192.168.2.1

Hey Redhawk, thanks for the advice.

I will try 14929 again.

Notes:
-I know this is client mode, I've read before its best to try this first before repeater
- I've tried both shared and auto under wireless advanced, as well as turn off WMM and IPV6
- the router I am connecting to is a dlink running on the default 192.168.0.1
- I will try some of your advice out and let you know how it goes, thanks for your help
