In looking for the correct build to run on my WRT54G v1.1, I read both the "recommended firmware" thread. This thread points to Eko build 15230. The peacock thread mentions build 13491 as a good build, as well as 12548, and mentions that 15230 might be a good choice, but that some people have had problems with it. I can confirm that there seems to be problems with 15230 (at least on some instances of old routers.)
The thread here:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=90567&highlight=15230+vint+wrt54g
mentions problems with 15230 on a WRT54G v1.0. It also points to this thread:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=83782&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=vint+15230&start=15
which mentions that the Ethernet switch stops working with routers that have wl0_corerev = 4 (namely, the WRT54G v1.0) I have a WRT54G v1.1, wl0_corerev = 5, and I see the same problem with Eko build 15230 on my router. Build 13491 seems to work so far.
So, since the recommended firmware thread points to 15230 for VINT builds, and doesn't mention 13491, nor that people are having problems with 15230 VINT on old hardware, it might be a good idea to mention this in the recommended firmware thread, in case people don't read through the peacock as closely as they should, or if like me, read the peacock thread ages ago and was just looking for a newer build to install. I skipped the peacock thread and just looked at the recommended firmware thread, returning to the peacock thread only after having problems.
Anyway, I realize these are old routers, and there's not much attention paid to VINT routers anymore, but it might save some people some frustration to recommend VINT build 13491 in both threads that most everyone reads (or should read) and mention the problems people seem to be having with the 15230 build in the recommended firmware thread.[/url] |
