So in my eyes the 16545 is pretty stable (and also fast - around 22MBps when copying wired<-->5GHz )
Thanks! Now, if I only had time over the next few weeks to give it a thorough run-through. I am trying hard to increase the WAF with W7MC, so I won't be able to putz around with this until mid-June. Maybe they'll be a newer release, if not I will try 16545 (or 16454).
Looks like this thread sprung right back to life -- thanks everyone!

right now I have 14 uptime without a problem. And the only reason it is just 14 days is that we had some power outage 2 weeks ago.
41 Gigabytes were pumped through the radios in those 14 days.

Sounds good! I take it you don't use the WNDR3700 as a router because you need it where your 5 GHz clients are?
Anyway, guess I'll give 16454 a try before too long, then -- I just hope it works equally well as a router...
In addition, the router will completely fail to accept any more changes if you change its IP address. So yes, avoid this firmware (I have v2).
Wish I'd seen this thread before I followed the directions from the 3700v2 flashing instructions. The link there goes to 16994, and while it flashed successfully, I can't change any settings at all beyond the user/pass. I'll try backing down to 16454, as it sounded like that was working well for others. Why would 16994 get linked as the go-to build when it's clearly b0rked though?
New stock firmware: ftp://downloads.netgear.com/files/WNDR3700-V1.0.14.98.img. Taken offline by Netgear again from the website, but still available from their FTP. (and if not there anymore I can share if needed). Finally port-translating is available, which was the sole-reason for me to use DD-WRT. Upgrading from previous stock-firmware screwed the already setup port-forwarding rules a bit, but after fixing them manually, everything is running superb with this firmware! The settings not being upgraded correctly might be the reason they pulled it back for now. I've got insanly WLAN speeds, over 12MB/sec on 130Mbps 2.4GHz radio. 5GHz is not to great for me, but that has probably to do with the signal being weakened too much by my house...
As of the troublesome builds of lately, I am completely switching back to stock now! Will try DD-WRT again when it's mature enough for WNDR3700v1.

The latest build (16994) bricks the device.
I have tried:
flash wndr3700-factory.img (16994) through stock firmware
brick , then i tftp'd wndr3700-factory.img (16785) which works.
Then I tried wndr3700-webflash.bin (16994) through webinterface, same result(brick)
Then I tried wndr3700-factory.bin (16994) through tftp, same result(brick)
Went back to wndr3700-factory.img (16785) through tftp for now.
I have a WNDR3700 (not v2)
When it bricked I got powerlight, ethernetlights, but no WLAN lights for a few seconds (~10-60) then the led most to the right for about the same time then back to power,eth....
To tftp I had to hold the reset button then power on the device and hold the reset for 30sec which made the powerlight blink rapidly and I could tftp to 192.168.1.1 with the new firmware.
(Could not upload any other way, and it took me a while to figure this out)
Is there anything I have missed? I have followd the instructions on the WIKI (30-30-30 etc..).
A warning on the wiki for this version might be a good idea until this has been sorted out.
