@kt_haddock, bskchaos, and Ozzy_PT

The reason the router's hostname doesn't show in Network Places is because the NMBD code file is missing from the embedded Samba software in this firmware release. (Incidentally the BS 16994 build has the same problem.) This file causes Samba to act as a WINS server by replying with the router's hostname when client computers send a Netbios name query. NMBD is an optional Samba component that may have been left out to reduce memory size. To solve this problem, download and install Samba35 (version 3.5.8-2) from Optware. See the DD-WRT Wiki for Upgrading to Samba3 installation instructions. BTW, the Samba 2.2.12 version in Frater's OTRW doesn't work with this firmware nor with the BS 16994 build either. Again, do the upgrade.

anyone having problems with smbd on k24 NEWD mini-usb-ftp? Tried a bunch of different things but it always results in a seg fault. Created a ticket http://svn.dd-wrt.com:8000/ticket/2094

root@YZF-R1:~# /usr/sbin/smbd --config-file=/tmp/smb.conf
Segmentation fault
root@YZF-R1:~# /usr/sbin/smbd
Segmentation fault

Running eko 17804 mini-usb-ftp NEWD on a WRT350N, smbd results in a seg fault. Tried 'startstop samba3', '/usr/sbin/smbd --config-file=/tmp/smb.conf', and '/usr/sbin/smbd' and all result in a seg fault. Tried using the built in gui for samba config as well as a custom config that worked prior to this samba changes.

I have been watching one of my E3000 router's 5 GHz performance very closely and have noticed a dramatic slowdown of it's transmitter's connection speed from 270 Mbps to 27 Mbps over a three hour period while the receive side maintained a steady 270 - 300 Mbps rate. This event has reoccurred several times over the last two days. I have all 802.11n devices on this frequency band which are capable of 300 Mbps speeds. After playing with several parameters, I discovered that changing the "MIMO - Transmission Fixed Rate" from "Auto" to "15 - 270(300)Mbps" under the "WL1- Advanced" tab has so far solved the problem. I haven't yet checked my Asus RT-N16 router for this condition. It appears that my D-Link Dir-825 B1 router that is running the BS 16994 build may have the same problem. I haven't checked the E3000 router's 2.4 GHz performance yet. Perhaps setting the transmission rate to an explicit value causes the router to abandon the "Good Neighbor Policy". Will continue to investigate.

Problem:
Upon reboot with dd-wrt.v24-17084_NEWD_std-nokaid_nohotspot_nostor on a WNDR3300, with the Internet LED, the port 1 LED will only goes 10Mbps (orange light). Once fully booted the Internet LED went green, but port 1 stayed orange. I have had a 1Gbps machine on that port since day one getting a green light (100Mbps). If I move it to any other port, it gets a green light. But Port 1 is Orange no matter what. All during the 30-30-30 and reboot up to connecting to the Internet the port is green. Once the Internet light goes green, Port 1 goes Orange.

Revert to 16994 - dd-wrt.v24_std_generic.bin and the port is still Orange/10Mbps. So it looks like the build "kinda" broke my WNDR3300. Did another 30-30-30 and the port went back to green. Reinstalled the 17084 and the port is Orange again. 30-30-30, no joy.

Reverted to 16944 with upgrading machine in port 1, still orange. 30-30-30, port 1 goes green. Moved upgrading machine to Port 2 and reinstalled 17084 and port 1 goes orange, Port 2-4 is Green. With the same machine now on 2 (green) that was going orange on 1. Very strange bug.

In the meantime, I'll put my ATA (10Mbps) on that port. Will just have to get use to the Orange light on the other end now.

Could this be a failing unit? Or . . . Curious that I have really been eying the 4000 lately. Is this an omen?

I was really curious about this on my WNDR3300 and come to find out, with both radios, everything sees them better than with 16944. Stable and good threw put. On my BDP I am getting 5 bars with each radio (3 at best with 16773) and >10Mbps with 2.4GHz N in Vudu's (Walmart) speed test and no buffering or lock up when streaming HDX/1080p material internally and from the Internet. And that's all that matters. Clean streaming.

I'll confirm...RT-N16 DDNS hasn't attempted and update since Saturday. It would appear its no longer scheduled for update. (BTW...I have update set to 1 day)

Yes...wireless fluctuates all over the place with my RT-N16. Sometimes in the same room I drop to 2 bars of signal strength...then it bounces right back up to full....very odd....my Repeaters have questionable connectivity to it also.
