Hi all,
this might be a stupid question but I could not find something in the board related to it.
Would / Will it be possible with DD-WRT to do WiFi direct? If yes, how is this going to work?
maybe I'm slow on the uptake but honestly spoken I did check your advice beforehand and you post keeps losing me as a re-did it and am no wiser anymore.
After having read my initial post i think it might be misleading when glancing over it. My request was regarding the "WiFi direct", a certification program from the WiFi alliance, which allows ad-hoc networks to be set up for noobs (like me). Basically http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wi-Fi_Direct tells that this is the successor of WPS and ad-hoc mode and is a software based mechanism. Therefore I was wondering whether DD_WRT was already supporting / planning to support it.
I would be happy to receive additional pointers or precise my request or move it to another part of the forum, bus as said your reply has completely lost me.

Wikipedia defines Wifi Direct as:
Quote:
a set of software protocols (the Wi-Fi Peer-to-Peer specification) that allow Wi-Fi devices to talk to each other without the need for wireless access points (hot spots).
I interpret this as bypassing the (DD-WRT) router entirely. An example is where a printer sends a job directly to a wireless printer.
this definitely adds a new angle for me to the topic.
I was under the impression that WiFi direct is the successor / expansion to WiFi protected setup (WPS) the way I understood the article and there a dozens of WPS certified routers out on the market. Therefore I thought WiFi direct might be supported with DD-WRT as well.
Besides that it might be a use case for routers as well to easily establish peer-to-peer connections to some WiFi devices such as mobile handhelds.
