Hello all. Quick question here:

I am looking to implement the special edition for visitors to our office so I can throttle bandwidth. I am looking at getting an E3000 for this (yes overkill I know) but I was curious if the mega builds will work or do I need the 2.6 builds for this?

Also on that note, I do have a WRT610Nv1 and a WRT610Nv2 sitting around. I see that there is a mega_special_wrt610n.bin available. Is that for the v1 or the v2?

Maybe I can just use one of those instead of the E3000 since they are basically the same thing.

If someone could fill me in that would be great so I don't get any brickage.

Thanks!

There is no K26 builds so the E3000 and the 610Nv2 are out...however, you could run the mega_special build on the 610Nv1 unit....the V1 has a 4705 processor where the 610Nv2 has a 4718 processor which isn't supported by the older V24 builds.

So...the 610Nv1 is your only option of what you've listed.

Thanks for the reply redhawk0. Very Happy

I guess I will give the wrt610v1 a whirl and see what happens.

I think I saw a post saying that 2.6 was in alpha. Is there any talk of this progressing or should we stay away from routers that need 2.6 in the future if we are planning around the special builds?

Thanks again for the reply. I was worried I might not get one and end up in brick city Shocked

I've heard the same thing (from Sash) that K26 is in Alpha...but I've heard no further talk about a release for it.

So...for now...if you absolutely positively require the Special build for your network, get a V24 supported unit.

Fair enough. Yeah unfortunatly my concern is bandwidth throttling so visitors to our shop won't eat up our bandwidth.

Plus people have decided our customer wireless that we have currently is a good place to connect their iPad's to so I need to cut the allowance back.

Thanks again for the info redhawk. Greatly apperciated Very Happy
