Thanks for the idea, I'll try using that direct IP and see if there's any difference doing complete reloads.

I have tried changing DNS servers, for the longest time I've been using 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, the ones that Google provides which are supposedly faster than normal ones.

I don't know if that's real or not, but I figured why not try it...

Anyway, as I said I've been using them forever and the internet seemed nice and fast (not necessarily better or worse), but when this problem started I tried using my ISP-provided ones and I the problem didn't go away.

I guess it's still possible it's an internal router problem though. As I said I'll try the links a bit later and see how it goes.

Please help with this step
- Set a static IP on your computer to 192.168.1.7. Subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0

I have a WRT400N and I cant seem to get the above step to work. So I changed the IP as instructed above on the Linksys setup page. After resetting the router I cannot get back in through the 192.168.1.1 address. What am I doing wrong? Seems like I changed the IP at the wrong place but Im not exactly sure where.

And what does the linksys webgui looks like?

So I bought one of these from Newegg this week because they were on sale for November. New, not refurb, still in shrinkwrap.

In my case, everything was working quite well with the routerdb's suggested build (14896). For most of the day... and then, without warning, after a reboot ath1 just vanished.

It's still gone after leaving the power off after a few hours, doing a few 30/30/30s, upgrading to 15747 and doing 30/30/30s, and finally trying a revert to the stock firmware and a 30/30/30.

Amusingly, the stock firmware is all sorts of confused now. It thinks the 5GHz radio is set to 20/40 on center channel 9 and main channel 7(!); and 2.4GHz on channel 9. Neither, however, are actually transmitting at all on the stock revert.

Has anyone else seen ath1 disappear and stay gone? Is there some debugging I can do to see if the device is still recognized by the kernel, but needs a radio-level reset?

I hate to dig up old threads but I'm also missing ath1. Matter of fact, I've never seen ath1 at all. Only an ath0. Anyone find a solution to this?

I've done several 30/30/30 resets. Still, no dice. I'm running v.15708 if this helps anyone.

Thanks! Very Happy

I've had one of these routers for a few months now, and it's about to drive me crazy. Linksys hasn't released a firmware upgrade since December 2008, and that is the firmware that ships with the router.

The current firmware is Ver.1.0.02 build 11, released 12/09/2009. I set up a WRT400N today, and after initial set up, I flashed to the latest firmware, which took about a minute.

Why don't you guys upgrade to build 15793(eko) or 15796(BS) and then test?

For one thing, eko builds aren't compiled for Atheros, those builds are broadcom only, and for second.. Those build numbers don't exist in the dd-wrt ftp for flashable binaries.

At this point ddwrt is stable but not ready for prime time.
Throughput is below what it should be and unstable.

Some features don't work and others are broken.

Drivers aren't the issue since stock firmware makes out throughput for what one is to expect from this firmware.

Clearly brain is aware of its short comings since he hasn't put out anything new this year and the roadmap has showed major changes.

Did the power issue for this ever get sorted out? The default tx power is 20 and the default antennna gain is 0 and if I change those it seems not to change anything...are those settings ignored and if not what's the best level to get longest distance?

Thanks.

I never got mine to do anymore than 17dBm - antenna gain 0, last build i used on my wrt400n is 18024.
