Samba/FTP write&read USB NAS speeds?

Hi people!

Could you tell me what your HW is and what speeds you get for R/W you get using wireless and/or cable using dd-wrt with USB device as nas?

Asus RT-N16 running Samba 3.5.6.1.

After a reboot (with a fresh memory allocation and not using swap) I get anywhere from 5.5MB/s to 8MB/s on wired connection. If it is multiple files/folder, I get less speed. If it is just a single file I have seen speeds of 8.8MB/s.

From wireless I never exceed 2MB/s.

Approx 3,5Mb/sec Asus WL500gP V2; 2Mb/sec over WiFI

Asus RT-N16 with last firmware and optware, Samba 3.5.6.1.
I get 3,4 Mb/s over Ethernet and 2,2 over WiFi.
Also I set TCP_NODELAY in Samba config to 204800.

TCP_NODELAY has no parameter and btw is really bad for filetransfers.

Asus RT-16 with Samba 3.5.6.1. Pc connected with cable.

The maximum speed I have seen for a single file was about 8MB/s

No, no.
Please see here
If you set
socket options = TCP_NODELAY IPTOS_LOWDELAY SO_KEEPALIVE SO_RCVBUF=131072 SO_SNDBUF=131072
it increase transfer speed to 4,1 Mb/s.
Right?

wrong. As you read others reach 8-10 mb/s without these.
Actually, all these socket options are counterproductive. Defaults/parameter autotuning will work best.
TCP_NODELAY/IPTOS_LOWDELAY is only useful for very small files (<1 kb), in general throughput will be degradred.
SO_KEEPALIVE is non-sense, because there are most likey no middle-nodes / NAT boxes involved. it just adds aditonal overhead.
changed BUF sizes are not useful because the bandwidth-delay product is so small that these wont get filled anyways (and instead just waste memory)

Wasn't able to fully test properly on an Asus RT-N16

The ProFTPD client kept crashing - running Brainslayers newest build

On a WZR-HP-G300NH - 2 TB NTFS drive, I was copying files and testing speeds

100 MB file was taking about 1 minute over ProFTPD

Never tried the Samba setup

Gigabit wired -> USB NAS 2 TB

So - looking at around 1.66 MB/s maybe hitting 2MB/s
