I am running the latest firmware but twice a day the router grinds to a halt regarding wireless speed and I have to power cycle it for the wireless to be fast again, this includes if I'm in close proximity to it. Any ideas on why this might be happening?
I have the exact same problem, my wifi just stops working ( a lot of timeouts) powercycle does help. the Switch works fine, only wireless problem. Any ideas anyone ?
Did you not read the first post? I have the latest firmware update from dd-wrt. So your suggestion is moot.

All dd-wrt builds are numbered and there is no build numbered "the latest".
The perception of what is the latest build vary quite a lot among the forum users and it is quite common that what a user considers "latest build" is actually a month or two old.. _________________ Kernel panic: Aiee, killing interrupt handler!
I also have the same problem. I installed DD-WRT Build 14896 for the first time today and not long after I began experiencing periodic sudden drops in wireless bandwidth. Connection speed drops to 1 Mb/s and everything comes to a full stop. Power cycling the router does restore full functionality, though.
I have observed nothing different in both the Wireless and Router status tabs except for the wireless Rate being 1 Mb/s. Again, I am using the 14896 build, dated 2010-08-09, which can be considered as the "latest" (logically, yes?).
These speed drops are very annoying as the time between them could be under an hour or several hours and nothing obvious seems to affect that. The only thing to do is to unplug the AC adapter from the wall and plug it back it in.
This is a serious problem for me and I would like to hear from the developers on this. I had to power cycle my router over a dozen times since I flashed it with DD-WRT and now I am fed up with it and went back to using an older router just to enjoy my connection hassle free. I do want to use DD-WRT very much, but not like this.

Thanks for your input, Sash, but as I am sure you can understand that does not help me very much. My problems occur regardless of file size and seemingly intermittently.
What specific problems do you have with large files? And why do you think your OS would have an impact?
i figured you that my problems depent on my mbp wifi card which is a piece of broadcom bullshit with a closed source driver...
so ther should be no general problems with the ar72xx hardware.

Hi, all.
I had problem with my two WRT160NLs' wireless - low, unstable transfer rate, connection drops, long dhcp response time and - additionaly - freezing web interface.
I just flashed one of routers to brainslayer build 14594.
For now it seems that web interface is running fast and stable, dhcp too.
I will have to test it a few hours, but it seems that all other problems dissapeared too.
It looks that brainslayer 14594 is much better than 14896 from dd-wrt site.
