I have 2 wrt54g in my home runing ddwrt just fine for almost 2 years.
Last week I bought a wrt54g2 v1 for my fiancée and the nightmare started.
I installed the firware the way it's suposed to be installed (following peacock and wiki) and the instalation itself went fine.
But it just happen everytime I turn on the router, it works for about 5-10 minutes and then just freezes. Power cycling it resolves the issue for another 5-10 minutes.
The webgui freezes as well.
I'm curently using DD-WRT v24-sp2 (12/28/09) micro
(SVN revision 13525).
I've tryed to disable wireless to see if it was related but no joy.
Did you do a proper hard reset before and after? If not, you need to. Do one now and reconfigure. You could try build 12874 or 12548 too, as they were both rock stable builds. Could just be that routers crappy antennas though. _________________ I fix "shortcuts". If you don't have time to read thoroughly, I don't have time to re-type what you missed.

The WRT54G2 started being supported in 13064 so 12874 and 12548 are out of the question. You should either consider downgrading to 13064 or upgrading to 14311 as that is a build that works well for this specific unit. To the OP...
RMA that router.. Take it back, exchange it.. You are having a heat issue.
I own one of these little beauties and have repaired several. They get soooooo hot, the bottom side of the pcb under the processor changes color from the heat after a short time of service.. Not minutes or days... but it doesn't take long.
I traded my GS2 for a G2 and the 1st thing I did was add a heatsink to the processor.
Makes sense??? Runs for 10 minutes or so, then locks up.. Shut it down, start it back up and after 10~15 minutes... locks up again..
I can say that your lockup problems are most likely not due to dd-wrt. dd-wrt runs fine on my G2. _________________ [Moderator Deleted]

I'm not sure barry.
After the 15 minutes I powercycle it and, 10 seconds later, its's working and for full more 15 minutes. If the problem was heat, I think it would last less then 15 minutes after I power cycle it since 10 seconds is not enough for cool it down.
Do you think that I'm able to feel the overheating from external casing?
I live in Brazil and RMA here is a pain in the arse. If heat is a problem, maybe i will try to put a better heatsink on it.

It is not the build causing your problem. That is a good build. If you don't think it is a hardware issue, all I would suggest is the using the gui, reset the router to "factory defaults", then reconfigure. Nowhere in your post(s) do you say that you hard reset the router.

Huh??? G2 was supported late october, 2008. 1st build posted for it was 10709. Both 12874 & 12548 run great on this router. _________________ [Moderator Deleted]

Already did all that. I know I haven't mentioned that I've already hard reseted it, that's why I mentioned on the last post.
I'm not saying it isn't a hardware issue, I just made an argument. I could be wrong and I probably am.

No... The case will feel warm.. Actually warmer on the bottom after it runs for a bit.
This is a fact.. If you take the case apart, let it run for a few minutes, you will not be able to keep your finger on the processor. If you lick you finger and touch the processor, it is just short of "sizzling".

Database says otherwise. The only two builds for the WRT54G2 are 13064 and 14311.
Have you READ anything around here? The announcements at the top of this forum? Why do you think they are announcements! The router database is shit. It should not be used. This has been discussed many many times and is obvious to all sensible people. And 13064 IS a bad build and should not be used. The 12548 and 12874 are both superb builds with great track records.
