I can only think of one way of burning the USB ports and that is connecting USB +power to router power.
You may then get your router powered up via the USB and it will possibly overload and burn USB components in your computer.
Have you tested the ports now with a flash stick or a mouse?

I opened another 3-wire CA-42 phone connector today where the colours used was the same but connected differently:

6 FBus Rx blue
7 FBus Tx red
8 Data GND orange

This one had only 6 of the small connector pins in the phone connector and pin2 (first one of the small) was omitted so there was a bit of space between pin 3 and pin 1 (which is in the plastic tab).
They are all different from each other..

One can carefully cut piece by piece from the connector moulding and get inside to see how the wires are connected.

That's how mine was as well, Orange was ground

Luckily I decided to buy 2 cables, turns out I did NOT burn out the USB ports.

I must've burnt out something on the CA-42 cable.

The 2nd cable works fine now, no issues, first one got tossed in trash.

File for revert from dd-wrt to Buffalo stock firmware,
it is for loading via the dd-wrt web gui.

Thanks to DoesItMatter for testing and providing me with serial log files without which this wouldn't have been possible.

THIS is for the EU and US models!
I do NOT know if this will work for the Japan models - you are warned!

Instructions for the Web Revert are very simple.

Download the Web Revert file above.
Download the 13525 webflash (non-vpn) file:

http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/other-downloads?path=others%2Feko%2FBrainSlayer-V24-preSP2%2F12-28-09-r13525%2FWHR-G300N%2F

1) After downloading both files, reset the router to defaults from Web GUI

2) Flash 13525 web-flash thru the dd-wrt GUI and again Reset to Defaults when flashing

3) Wait until back into DD-WRT GUI

4) Set a default user/pass - go back into Administration console

5) Load up the WebFlash revert with Reset to Defaults once again

6) Go have a smoke/coffee/habit-forming-substance (your choice) - Wait at least 5 minutes or more!!!

7) After 5 minutes, 4 lights should be lit on the router, the only light that won't be showing is the DIAG (red) light - this is good!

8) Login to 192.168.11.1 - default user = root, blank password

9) Upgrade to latest 1.65 firmware from Buffalo's website - if you choose to.

10) I recommend doing a firmware reset through Buffalo's web GUI as well just to be sure all settings are fresh.

You're now back to Buffalo firmware on your WHR-G300N

Thanks to LOM for this - the testing was FUN!

Congratulations on getting this dumped

Two Qs for the instructions

a) Do you unrar the revert file first?
b) Any particular reason for v13525 and not a more recent version or is it just because that was the version you tested with?

Finally, want to go update the DD-WRT WHR-G300N wikipage ?

You must extract the binary file from the rar archive before uploading to the router.
It is rar'ed not for the size but a .bin file downloaded from the forum has no error detection.
If you can unpack the rar file, then your download of the file was error free.

DoesItMatter has to explain why he wants you to revert from v13525, it should in my opinion work from any dd-wrt version.
But then, I don't have the router so I don't really know.

13525 because that's the version I reverted it back from

It was also the most stable for me and my usage

Like LOM said above, it SHOULD work for any version, but I did it from 13525

Definitely do all the reset to defaults though!

OK.

Went through the whole process again.

Flashed from Buffalo version 1.65
Flashed to > WHR-G300N Preflash ENC file from Brainslayer

Flashed to firmware 13525

Flashed to firmware 14594 (latest available)

Flashed from 14594 -> Web Revert image from above

Back to Buffalo 1.64, and upgrade to 1.65

So yea, this should work from any DD-WRT version.

Flashing back/forth is possible now.

Worked like a charm, had to test although didn't have any "real" reason to switch.

Big thanks to everyone who contributed to this effort.

A big thank you to LOM and DoesItMatter for the revert file.
I had already decommissioned my WHR-G300N due to wifi incompatibilities.
As soon as I return from holidays I will use the revert file.
Thanks again!

Whoops, "reason" for switch found, WAY better Wifi-performance and general usability with phone (Samsung i5700 Android).

With DD-WRT there was random disconnections from AP, and when phone turns off it's display it also shuts down Wifi (power saving), with DD-WRT reconnection after phone was again activated was flaky at best, now reconnection is actually working. Always thought that phone was the reason, not Buffalo.

And 1.65 firmware in use at the moment.

I must be blind, I read the whole 4 pages and could not find this file. Please tell me where this file is and what is the name of it. I also have a Buffalo WHR-G300N. You guys are really fantastic. I had given up hope.

Thanks again,
