Someone please help. If you have loaded fw on the D-Link DIR-615 E1, please let me know how. I emailed Sebastian about a donation and he says he already has one and the posted firmware works, but I can't get it to work. I have tried both builds, I have loaded from Win7 Ult 64-bit and Win XP Pro. I have done the 30/30/30 resets and standard resets. I have tried to follow the loading instructions exactly. I can only load through emergency mode and Emergency mode is still there after flashing attempt. The flash completes and the router reboots, then it goes into a reboot cycle. I always use the factory to ddwrt firmware. I have been a computer tech for 11 years, although I am new at ddwrt. I am willing to test any ideas y'all may have. I have flashed and setup a DIR-615 C1 successfully. I am using the E1 firmware posted on 4-23-10. Hope someone can help.
Someone please help. If you have loaded fw on the D-Link DIR-615 E1, please let me know how. <snip>
Unfortunately, I'm in the same boat. I have used DD-WRT firmware on other routers (mainly Linksys) w/o problem, but the currently posted version does not seem to work with Rev E1 of the D-Link DIR-615.
If anyone has used the successfully, please advise as there appear to be several of us who bought the DIR-615 E with the belief the firmware would work.
I know this isn't DD-WRT's fault and this is a very much "try at your own risk" issue, but I do hope that support will be added in an upcoming build (or to learn what we need to do differently with the rev E1 models than with the typical firmware updates).
I love this site. Thanks everyone for all the help!

I successfully got my DIR-615 C1 flashed. Here's how:
1. Download my router's firmware (dir615c1-factory-to-ddwrt-firmware.bin) from the download page: http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database
2. Used a hex editor to change the end of the firmware file from AP81-AR9130-RT-080609-05 to AP81-AR9130-RT-070614-02. This is the hardware ID that was in the firmware provided on the site the router checks for updates. (http://wrpd.dlink.com.tw/router/firmware/query.asp?model=DIR-615_Cx_Default ; view page source).
3. Used Firefox(!) to upload my firmware using the normal firmware update under Tools > Firmware. (You also can hold down the reset button to get into firmware update mode, but there's no need.) I spent many frustrating hours with my router telling me (in both normal and rescue modes) that the firmware I was uploading was for the wrong hardware (or in rescue mode, not responding after I uploaded), only because I was using Google Chrome on Linux. It worked as soon as I used Firefox. I think it's due to a javascript engine difference.
I haven't done extensive testing, but everything seems to work! I am not seeing the the issues some people mentioned in the forums, like with settings getting lost after reboot.
Detailed instruction for for DIR-615 Rev: C1 v3.11
Following nilbus's post
hookup your PC's ethernet cable to the router port 1-4.
configure your PC's ethernet TCPIP to "use the following ip"
ip address: 192.168.0.2
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
default gateway: 192.168.0.1
goto Emergency Mode (while holding reset, unplug and replug power, keep holding reset for roughly 15 seconds)
using firefox (chrome may not work properly)
logon to router with ip 192.168.0.1
takes you to emergency mode page
upload attached file (i already HEX edited according to nilbus's post)
dir615c1-factory-to-ddwrt-firmware.bin
(DD-WRT v24-sp2 (04/23/10) std, ver 14311)
wait until router reboots (about 3 mins)
from there you can update to latest version of
dir615c1-firmware.bin
remember to change back your PC's ethernet tcpip settings back to "obtain automatically"

First of all, thanks to all for all the help with this thread.
I've been up and down it a few times, lots of trial and error. Mostly error, the notorious "firmware I was uploading was for the wrong hardware". I had followed all instructions, and tried both the trendnet and the dlink files but still kept getting the error.
I then downloaded s/w versions 3.10, 3.11 and 3.12 from dlink and compared them. When reviewing the codes in my hex editor it seemed to me that there were inconsistencies when comparing 3.10 to 3.12 (which is what I started with). So, I threw caution to the wind, I loaded 3.10 from dlink and then tried to load the dlink dd-wrt files again and it worked.
So, thanks again and I hope this might alleviate some frustration for some of you out there.
If your dlink 615 C1 is at s/w 3.12 or 3.11, revert it to 3.10 and then install the dd-wrt.
I am unsuccessfully trying to flash my DIR-615 Revision C2 (Firmware v3.03RU) as it is shown in http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/DIR-615C. I have downloaded dir615c1-factory-to-ddwrt-firmware.bin and changed in Ghex the hardware ID from AP81-AR9130-RT-080609-05 to AP81-AR9130-RT-070614-02. But when I open 192.168.0.1 in Firefox and try to upload dir615c1-factory-to-ddwrt-firmware.bin it tells me "The uploaded firmware file may not be correct. You may have uploaded a file that is not intended for this device, or the uploaded file may be corrupted." The same thing happens when I use IE. I tried to upload Dlink`s firmware v3.10, but again "The uploaded firmware file may not be correct". Today when I`ve bought DIR-615 it had firmware v3.02RU. I tried to upload on v3.02RU v3.10 and dir615c1-factory-to-ddwrt-firmware.bin, but failed. When I`ve tried v3.03RU – I succeeded. So now I have v3.03RU, but still can`t upload nothing. Do you have any suggestions?
Thank you! Now it works! I was inattentive when compared hex code of v3.03RU and v3.10 and haven`t noticed 01...
By the way, are you a telepathist? You published the answer at the moment I was typing the question
