signal loss

hi - need help please. i have attached a 12 dbi omni antenna to a wrt54gl router.i can get the linksys signal ok of 150ft and connect but the antenna doesn't broadcast a wider signal. I changed the router,checked cables,upg firmware replaced router antenna still without luck. any suggestions please.
