download bin file. /uploaded by kmmng/

The downloaded file should be named "image.bin"

- Set your wired network to IP: 192.168.1.8 (or any other EXCEPT 192.168.1.6)
- Connect with network cable your PC and Port #1 on the router.
- Unplug the router power
- Hold down "reset" button
- Plug the power back while continue holding "reset" btn
- Wait few seconds (let's say 10) until the router wifi icon flash.
- Hold the reset few more seconds (just in case)
- Then write down the command
tftp -i 192.168.1.6 PUT image.bin
(I'm not quite sure that you will be able to ping 192.168.1.6 at this point.)

after 10-20 seconds you should see that upload is successful.

-Take a cigarette (5-10 minutes)
-Reboot.
-Restore network card settings or add 192.168.1.1 as GW
- Your DD-WRT should waiting you @ 192.168.1.1

It work for me.. (do not forget the cigarette...)

I followed the instructions above from wili98 which worked.

Not certain of the previous version - it was the image.bin supplied by Kmmng which you can only see to download if you are logged in as a registered user.

I found when doing the TFTP process that the PC you use MUST have a static IP in the 192.168.1.x range - even if the router was set to 192.168.2.1 or similar before entering the TFTP mode.

I wasted a good half hour trying to TFTP to 192.168.2.1 ...

Thanks

In a moment of reckless weakness, I tried the new version using the webflash and the router seems to have updated successfully..

That was quite brave action Wink
Could you test wireless upload/download speed please?

I only have a fairly slow 2.5Mbps connection to the Internet but it seems to be working fine. The whole router seems to be much snappier in use than the Edimax firmware - I have tried 1.55, 1.66 and 1.68 on the router before.

Router has a "Made in China V1.0A" sticker on it. The router was running 1.66 when I used TFTP to put DD-WRT on. The wireless icon didn't flash when in TFTP mode for me.

These instructions were also useful for setting options for TFTP:

Sure, web interface of dd-wrt is much faster then original one. And you should not notice any difference in internet speed with 2.5Mbps connection.
It would be interesting to see speed of transfer from wired GigEther port to wireless N.

it varies.. but is between 90Mbps - 100 mbps.

tested with Intel 5100 AGN <- Wireless 6574n<-LAN 6574<- Gigabit NAS capable to 50 mBytes/s on wired..

http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/down.php?path=downloads%2Fothers%2Feko%2FBrainSlayer-V24-preSP2%2F02-23-10-r13972%2FEdimax-BR6574N/

There is an image.tftp. Do i have to rename it to image.bin?

Or do i have to ftpt the image.bin found on a forum and then tftp the latest release image.tftp ?

Thanks

I have successfully managed to upload the firmware to my 6574N with the instructions given in this thread and am running build 13832. My 3 wired LAN clients have all got 1GB network ports and can reach around 37MB/s transfering a 700MB avi between them but my wireless LAN client (Intel 5300) freezes on transfering the same file to one of the other LAN clients and I get an error saying the share has been disconnected (mapped share). This happens every time and same for a client with an intel 3945 card. I have the latest version (13.1.1.1) of intel proset installed on both laptops so can't see what the problem is. Strangely though on the 5300, it shows that I'm connected anywhere between 78MB/s and 144MB/s when looking at the connection properties which would indicate a wireless N connection. The wireless settings on the router are set to 'mixed' and all my clients are using Windows 7 ultimate. Before the DD-WRT firmware, the Intel 5300 (and another wireless N Edimax card) could only connect at G speeds.
All in all...I think the firmware is fantastic but there are serious wireless issues that need to be addressed. I'm really hoping that this firmware will get a new release soon which fixes the remaining problems indicated in the last few posts.
Nice work BrainSlayer...keep it up!

Many people said the PPPoe is also unstable. This makes me to use the official firmware but not dd-wrt.
Apart from a good UI and some new functions, I think the dd-wrt for 6574n is still under development.
Hope the issue could be solved in the next build.
Thank BrainSlayer and people who love dd-wrt.

Noticed very bad thing with official FW v1.68 - when sending heavy stream of data from a client to the router over wireless (uploading large file from my laptop to my NAS) the wireless connection breaks. Tried to upload a 6Gb file many times but failed. Sad
Continue testing.

A few days ago I reported many bugs of 6574n to the edimax service in China. They pay much attention on it. I also reported your '6GB file problem' to them. (You said you tried upload a 6Gb file many times but failed.) However after testing the router with a 10.6GB file they found no problem. So could you tell me more details information when the problem happened? Like the Encryption type, NAS and wireless adapter model you use.
By the way, if anybody fined any bug of the router, posting them on the board is welcome. If here is not a right place to post them you can send me a private message.
The edimax Chinese service seemed much warmer than the American service. For I sent email to the American customer service many times, but with no responds. However the Chinese customer service seemed only accept Chinese language for the picture below you can see.
But fortunately for me, I could speak both Chinese and English although my English is very bad. Smile

I have flashed the DD-WRT_24-03-10-r14144 yesterday over the DD-WRT_02-23-10-r13972 with webflash without problems. But the WDS functionality seems not fixed, in WDS-Mode no Client Connection possible. All other things are running stable and smooth.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll give it a try over the weekend.
