i have a wrt54g version 6 router.. doesnt seem to function properly at all, not sure whats wrong.. but id like to try to debrick it..

now i understand this is possible via a jtag cable, but isnt a jtag cable just a special serial cable that you can plug into specific pins on the motherboard?... well the board i have has no pints, but it does have the same 12 place pinout as other wrt54g routers... would it be possible to take a serial cable, cut and splice one end, then solder the wires directly to the proper section of the router?... or another idea, since six of the twelve pins are ground, could i somehow connect this to an externally mounted DB9 connector?

I think you must follow these steps in order to debricking a wrt54g V6 router. These steps are quite easy.

1. Ping the router ip (192.168.1.1). Make sure you are on the same network.
2. TFTP to the device.

On Linux/Unix
tftp 192.168.1.1
tftp> put wrt54gvx.bin
On Windows:
tftp -i 192.168.1.1 PUT wrt54gvx.bin
