Is there a way to setup the router to eliminate the need to once a day to power down both the cable modem and the router to get back to the direct modem speed without the router. This does not happen when the computer is connected directly to the modem using the same cable that is used to connect the same computer to the router.

This is not unique to either the DD-WRT V24-sp2 (10/10/09), the WRT (02/10/10), or the previous v1 Linksys software.

If this is “normal” expected operation, than both the cable and router companies need to put the power cords on the front of their units.

After the “power off to power on” there is a 2.5X faster download speed indicated on the cable companies speed test website.

Is there a fix for this or does this just always happen to all?

Current router firmware wrt160nl-firmware.bin

Thank you for the reply but this same issue existed with the original WRT600N v1, dd-wrt.v24_mega_wrt600n.bin, and the current mentioned firmware.

This is a definite issue with a wired connection and I am not sure if it is the same with wireless. Not be able to achieve a steady wireless rate to be able to comment.

The modem and router are separated by 2" gap.

Thought that if this was a common problem for others, maybe someone has solved this already.

Could this be an issue with the router setup?

If not something in one of the setups............what else could it be?

It has been over a week using wrt160nl-firmware.bin latest release on my WRT600N and there has been very little loss of speed since that install.

Download speeds have remain basically the same with a little variation due to internet usage.

It worked for me!

The wrt160nl is an Atheros based device so if you're really using its firmware build then there's no Broadcom wireless drivers in it for your wrt600n and you're lucky it even runs at all.

Are you saying that a firmware for the Atheros cpu and chipset (WRT160NL) is running on your Broadcom based WRT600?

Nah, I don't believe it..

The WRT600N is using firmware:DD-WRTv24-sp2 (02/22/10) mega which was identified as r13968 and the download was wrt160nl-firmware.bin.

I downloaded and flashed the file that was in r13968.

Since that download and install, there has been no speed loss in any of the wired units attached to the WRT600N.

Since I am under the impression that I used the above file, it would be appreciated if you could identify what I did use so I could change my records and know what I did load to get the above firmware that is installed in my WRT600N.

Your help would be appreciated.

Look on the router status page for the Firmware Version string. I'm not sure how much detail BS includes in it, but it might provide enough info to tell whether it's truly the 160nl build.

I should have been more specific. If you want the standard NEWD drivers, use this: http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/02-22-10-r13968/broadcom/dd-wrt.v24_mega_generic.bin. If you wanted to use the NEWD2 drivers, please use this one: http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/02-22-10-r13968/broadcom/dd-wrt.v24_mega_wrt610n.bin
