Optimal Settings for EOC-5610

I recently installed a dd-wrt EOC 5610 in place of another EOC 5610 without dd-wrt. Being a newbie to dd-wrt I am not seeing any performance gains with the new unit. Can anyone recommend some optimal settings that would give me some improved performance
from this unit? thanks. By the way, it is being used as an access point with an 18dbi external directional antenna.
