I am really surprised the DD-WRT team isn't making more of an effort here. The RV082 is a pretty high end router and it would really be a feather in the development teams hat to get this router supported.
I never knew that the 'auto' mtu settings put the adapters at 576!!!
I have the the rv016 as well and I gotta say.. Its a MUCH better router.. More informative/configurable webgui and it runs cooler (for what reason, I don't know, maybe larger case contributes). I wouldn't mind if the rv082 was essentially a 16 minus 5 WAN ports (8 total eth ports).. but its not.. its kinda neutered.. One feature I miss is the link utilization %.. small.. but informative..
edit: Just saw that the telnet trick was posted in the rv042 thread.. What was missing was the commands to make it permanent..
Just in case the linkto requries registration.. here it is..
1st step: (already posted)

I had emailed with BrainSlayer and he told me he will start working on it right after the new year. He said this is fairly difficult to do. I read a post from Sash that the y are soon to release the dual wan feature so it is all in good timing for support for these routers. I think it will be great.
Guys keep in mind this is free software and BS and all the developers do this for free.
I wish they would start a fee based support option. You can get community support for free that may take a little longer, but also get fast support one on one if you are willing to pay. This way there would be more money for all of them. They deserve to get paid more then they do for such good free software.

Sash or BS, I wanted to know if you have any status on this yet?
Did anyone send you a second unit? If not I could send you a second one if I get your gaurentee it will be worked on right away. It has been 8 months since I sent this to you guys and I have not seen any movement on it yet. These units are not cheap nor is shipping from the US.
Sash posted a couple of months ago that dd-wrt will have fail over soon. Do you know when that will be? Weeks or months????
