Here's a mod I haven't seen yet...the WRT54G-TM has an extra, hidden LED between power and wireless. In my tests it responds to gpio 7 which I guess is the DMZ LED on some.
Pic of the main-board showing the LED between power and wireless:

The intermediate steps:

And the procedure:
DO *NOT* USE A POWER DRILL!
1. put the cover label back on to get the allignment
2. notice that it's the 4th hole, and lines up with the row of existing LEDs
3. Take a 1/8" drill bit (smaller ones will work but 1/8" fits the holes very good) and begin drilling BY HAND (just to make a mark -- hold the bit in your fingers if you don't have a hand drill). STOP when you can see a mark. DO NOT use a power drill!
4. remove the front label again. Now, place the label face-down on a soft but firm material (like carpet padding, or a ball of paper towel)
5. find a larger drill bit (we're only using the tip to scratch the ink - I used something just under 1/4")
6. again, with your fingers only, rotate the drill bit and apply minimal to medium pressure. About 3-5 turns is probably enough to scratch through. BE CAREFUL not to drill through the clear part of the label - that won't look good!
7. check the hole size by holding it up to the light. Look at the front of the label, if the new hole looks about like the existing holes you're done. If not, repeat step 6.
Here's how it should look done...
