I have a wrt610n v1 that I just flashed this morning with
Firmware: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (10/10/09) mega
I set it up exactly like my previous wrt51gl, everything seems to work fine. I have two wireless clients (wii and a laptop) which connect with no problems.
I was interested in the wrt610n because of the usb port and want to get the print server functioning. So I followed (or attempted to follow) all the instructions on the USB print server wiki. I've enabled jffs and the USB options;
Core USB Support Enabled
USB 1.1 Support (UHCI) Enabled
USB 1.1 Support (OHCI) Enabled
USB 2.0 Support Enabled
USB Printer Support Enabled
USB Storage Support Disabled
Then I rebooted the router for good measure. When I ssh to it;root@Yoyodyne:~# dmesg | grep usb
usb.c: registered new driver usbdevfs
usb.c: registered new driver hub
usb-uhci.c: $Revision: 1.275 $ time 03:57:18 Oct 9 2009
usb-uhci.c: High bandwidth mode enabled
usb-uhci.c: v1.275:USB Universal Host Controller Interface driver
usb-ohci.c: USB OHCI at membase 0xb8002000, IRQ 3
usb-ohci.c: usb-00:02.0, PCI device 14e4:471a
usb.c: new USB bus registered, assigned bus number 1
usb.c: new USB bus registered, assigned bus number 2
usb.c: registered new driver usblp
printer.c: usblp0: USB Bidirectional printer dev 2 if 1 alt 0 proto 2 vid 0x04A9 pid 0x1712
printer.c: usblp1: USB Bidirectional printer dev 2 if 2 alt 0 proto 2 vid 0x04A9 pid 0x1712
So my printer is recognized per the instructions on the wiki. But the print server isn't installed or running;
root@Yoyodyne:~# ps | grep p910
root@Yoyodyne:~#
/jffs is empty and attempts to create subfolder so that I can run ipkg don't work...
root@Yoyodyne:/jffs# mkdir -p /jffs/tmp
root@Yoyodyne:/jffs# ls -a
So I'm thinking jffs is somehow read only? What am I doing wrong?
ipkg produces the following results;
root@Yoyodyne:~# ipkg update
root@Yoyodyne:~# ipkg list
ERROR: File not found: /jffs/usr/lib/ipkg/lists/whiterussian
You probably want to run `ipkg update'
ERROR: File not found: /jffs/usr/lib/ipkg/lists/non-free
You probably want to run `ipkg update'
ERROR: File not found: /jffs/usr/lib/ipkg/lists/backports
You probably want to run `ipkg update'
So ipkg doesn't appear to be working either, but I *think* that's due to the jffs not working correctly?

I'm not sure what setting the local DNS has to do with jffs or ipkg. I leave it blank so that DHCP will fill it in. But I tried changing it to the internal IP of the router and it made no difference.
If local dns is not filled in ipkg package cannot update. The DHCP will not automatically fill it in.
You can check to see if it is working by being in putty or similar program and type in ping google.com which should give you responses. To stop ping hit control c.
The reason I sugested this is because many of the wiki instructions say local dns is an optional setting. If you do not fill it in the router cannot connect to the web site to update any package.
You did not specify if your router is the primary or downstream of it. I will assume it is so, if static ip is 192.168.1.1 then local dns should be the same.

I figured out what the problem was. Apparently the /jffs created on the wrt610n gets created with 0 free space. So you have to create another one on some form of external storage (sd/mmc if you do the mod). I used a usb thumb drive, then mounted it to /jffs then ipkg works fine. Now I just have to get a usb hub so that I can have both the thumb drive and the printer connected at the same time.
Thanks for the help though!
I'm interested in seeing if I can get the fax, printer, and scanner on my mfp to work through dd-wrt. That would rock! But I'll settle for just the printer and the scanner.
I have run in to this same problem before. If you use an eko build the flash size is smaller than a BS build. If you look at the file size of your (10/10/09) mega build it is 7.8mb which, as you know, does not leave enough flash space for jffs. I am using 13000_big-wrt610n(09/30/09)Eko, which is 5.9mb, on my 610n and it has worked flawless. If you use that build you will not need thumb drive or usb hub to make the extra jffs space.
If you want to go the external drive route I would highly recommend "Optware, the right way". It is very easy to set up. I have 60gb hdd and usb printer running to usb via usb hub.

How did the printer work out after connecting to the Linksys? I've got the same situation except I have a WRT610N v1.0.
