Hi, I'm using WRT54G2 and the micro firmware version 12548. I upgraded from 1248 smth I guessed because of a problem.

My rates for the router always drops to 2MB and only a reboot would solve it, and then it would be back in 5minutes again.

Any help or guide to solve this?

I disabled:

After burner
Frame Burst
CTS Protection Mode
TX: 35-50.

Doesn't work still.

Diod you do a proper hard reset on the router? Are you running torrents?

I did a hard reset on the router and also offed all my torrents before trying to reproduce the problem, which usually reproduces it very well on its own.

Any other suggestions to try?

Sounds like interference from another router nearby. Try scanning channels and then picking a different channel.

i tried changing the channels, it was the first thing I did but to no avail.

I hopped from 6 to 11 to finally the channel that is hardly used in my area, 1, but still it goes on a rate drop spree.

After every reboot the wireless rate will stay at 54 48mbps, and slowly after a while the drastic drop will stay stuck at 2mbps or 1mbps.

Only a reboot will get it back.

Depending on how far away you are from the router. You can manually set the router to 54Mbps. Some users have done this and have had great success with it on the G2's.

ok if i force the rate to be 54mbps, the rates will drop, but the rates will not drop that much. Example:

If the rate drops usually, I get like 0.06 megabits of download speed from speedtest.

Now I set force 54mbps as the rate, sometimes I get like 1.6megabits of download speed from speedtest the moment the rates drop.

My usual speed / speed that I get before the rates drop from speedtest is 9.50 megabits.

Put your Ack Timing to 0 and make sure your Max Ports is 4096 with TCP/UDP Timeouts to 90. I can't think of anything else to tell you at the moment. Just make sure your router is not next to any metals, and you never said how close you are to your router?

i tried that and it doesn't work.

I even tried hard reset and using the defaults / reconfiguring and it will still drop and stay stuck at 2mbps rate.

I'm basically beside the router and its still happening to me.

Try lowering TX to 25mw see if it helps.

I will try out lowering the TX and see how it goes.

Another question I would like to ask is that currently I am using Eko Build 12548M Micro, in the case that the tx power does not work, is there a possibility that the brainslayer Build might solve this problem?

If yes, can I just use the Web Gui Firmware upgrade to switch over to the brainslayer version?

thanks.

I have my WRT54G2 (v1) on 28mW (i do that on all my routers out of habit), i use Ack timing of 0 on everything, and the only time i see rates drop like that is due to interference. A wifi scan shows there are quite a few networks nearby to me, i had the same problem of the router showing 2meg so changed the channel as the wifi scan indeed showed quite a few neighbours on that same channel. Did that and problem solved.

a few questions. what does ACK timing 0 do?

next is whether tx 28 is too low a power or something?

lastly i did site survey and there was only 2 other networks in the site survey, both on channel 6 while my router was on channel 1. 11 previously.

ok this is driving me mad.

I've basically tried all the settings I could get my hands on.

TX power, Frame Burst, Afterburner, Preample, G mode, Channel switching, force transmission rate.

No matter what, after a good 10 15mins, the rate will drop and get stuck at 2mbps, the only thing to get it back is a reboot or *Apply Setting*.

This is soooooo frustrating. Everything's slowing down to a crawl.

I actually meant 28mw first of all. What do you have your router transmitting, Mixed or G-only?
