msalvini;

Thank you very much for this. I'll go through my settings, and match things up. From memory, I see a few differences. We'll see how it works.

Have a good weekend.

I have noticed another issue. On occassion when connecting with wireless I get DHCP but then nothing works. When I look at the PC arp cache it shows the AP Mac instead of the Lan Mac for the address of my router. Eventually this corrects itself but it has taken up to 5 minutes before. I am also noticing that my Virtual Interface dissapears and I have to reboot to restore it. Just some bugs that need to be worked out in DD-WRT is my guess. Have a good weekend everyone.

msalvini;

I updated my TEW-652BRP to a newer version of firmware from Trendwest.

I updated my WHR-G300N to the 9/8/08 build by Brainslayer.

Now, the IP address of my wireless-N-only DHCP server (the TEW-652BRP) is listed in the 'Status | LAN | Active Clients' section for the wireless-N-only WHR-G300N - but only sometimes. Under 'Status | Wireless | Wireless Packet Info', I see TX/RX numbers like 5.5k/128k' with no errors.

Not sure what it means, but I still can not connect wirelessly through the TEW-652BRP, which is connected to the internet via its WAN port, via the WHR-G300N.

Everyone else that uses the TEW-652BRP through its LAN port can connect to the internet just fine, including the WirelessG router that I am using now.

I have compared our setups, and we look the same.

Odd.

Oh, and stranger still, the DHCP function of the TEW-652BRP seems to be functioning wirelessly through the WHR-G300N.

When I plug my PC into the WHR-G300N directly, it gets its IP address from the DHCP server at 192.168.2.3 - the TEW-652BRP. The address assigned is 192.168.2.203 - consistent with the TEW-652BRP's DHCP server setup. (which must have been assigned wirelessly by the TEW-652BRP as that is the only connection)

More to chew on...

Plugging in your settings saved me a great deal of time-consuming trial and error. In fact, flashing the WHR-G300N turned out to be much more time consuming in the end.

Thanks for sharing your configuration settings!

Another strange thing is that I can - while connected to me WHR-G300N wireless-N-only bridge - ping other devices LAN-connected to my TEW-652BRP router, (wireless-N-only with WAN & DHCP server) but I can not ping the TEW-652BRP itself.

It is as if I can use the bridge to get at other LAN connected devices on the TEW-652BRP router, but the WHR-G300N won't talk to the router otherwise.

Go figure.

Someone else in another thread noted the same behavior.

I was playing with settings, and when I changed the setting under 'Setup | Advanced Routing' from "Router" to "Gateway", my wireless connection started working - for a time.

Before I could post here about it, it stopped working again. Maybe a 30/30/30 reset will help...

I changed my G300N from N only to mixed because I was having interference issues with wireless connections. I no longer am having these issues. Not sure if this will help you but it is something else you can try.

I added this to the end of the Announcement sticky in this forum:

To perform a full reset on a WHR-G300N:

While plugged in, hold down RESET button for 20+ seconds.
You'll see ALL the lights flash, and then Red DIAG light will flash for a bit.
Let go of the RESET and in about 30-60 seconds, the green lights (Power & Wireless) will light up.

At that point - should be able to access 192.168.1.1 web gui.

This is with DD-WRT installed!

If you have the Buffalo firmware loaded - it will be at the default 192.168.11.1

Well, turning on 'mixed mode' instead of 'N-only' for the WHR-G300N did make it connect as a bridge, but the numbers aren't what I'd hoped. Here's hoping that a new version gets 'N-only' to work as a bridge.

I just finished modifying one of my WHR-G300N's, didn't have enough time before work to modify 2nd one yet.

I replaced the 2 internal antenna's with 2 UFL-RPSMA pigtails and threw on 2 huge 12dbi antenna's.

The router looks SWEET! Will post pics tomorrow.

I'm getting some VERY good signal connecting to the 2nd WHR-G300N with internal antenna's still.

Have it setup as Access Point / Repeater Bridge setup.
I left it at mixed mode, 40mhz wide.
I'm getting a solid 300mbps connect between the 2 of them.

They are about 8 feet apart with a few computers and monitors in between, so there is some interference, but solid signal still.

When both have the 2 - 12dbi antenna's, I'll move 1 of them to another room and compare signal strength and speed rates.

Where did you pick up the antenna's and pigtails from? Also how much did they cost?

Thanks

I now have PPTP VPN service working on the G300N. I have the G300N set as a virtual PPTP server on my DLINK. I also installed Real VNC on my PCs so now I can access my PCs from anywhere. It even works from my IPhone. Oh and I had to set up DDNS on my Dlink with a hostname assigned from dyndns.org.
