When I boot back into the live CD and issue and fdisk -l, I see all 4 partitions as expected. I'm able to successfully mount the first partition /dev/sda1 and it appears OK. I see /boot and seems like no problem. If I try to mount any of the other 3 partitions, it states that it cannot determine the fs type and that it must be specified. I'm not sure what that's all about.
BTW, I updated the BIOS to the latest.
Anybody have any ideas? I can also post any more info upon request.
Thanks for your help,
smanders

Yes, this disk works in my wife's laptop where it came from. It's a Hitachi 2.5 SATA drive. I also tried another old 3.5 IDE that I know works. It gave me the same problem. I'm going to try that same disk back in my wife's laptop and see what happens. I'm suspecting that the x86 image is not compatible with that motherboard. Anyone else try that motherboard?
Today I actually took the HD from my Intel Atom board that has the x86 dd-wrt image and installed it back into my wife's Dell Laptop. There dd-wrt booted fine. I was able to web into the interface and see that all was working properly.
Now I take that same HD and move it back to this Intel Atom board and now it will not boot. Here's the exact message from the screen.
"No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key"
Now on this same exact hardware, I have successfully install ubuntu server and desktop just fine. I can also boot any live CDs no problem.
Any ideas or approaches I should take to debug this?
Thanks for the prompt replies. Yes, the BIOS is the latest as mentioned above. Can you point me to the latest v24 pre sp2 that's already in a hd image format?
I'm sorry but I will not be able to follow-up with this one. I needed something in place quickly and I was more interested in the firewall and egress traffic shaping aspects of dd-wrt. I also had no plans to move it over to an embedded device. This ATOM based PC is going to act as a dedicated firewall. The added wireless was just going to be a nice add-on. I headed over and tried PFsense. I'm very satisfied with the installation. Maybe dd-wrt x86 should consider distributing an ISO installation image instead of a straight device image.
It would really be a good idea to provide a little GUI that could build DD-WRT boot images to USB Discs, standard hard drives...
and of course a USB and CD/DVD boot *install* disc for such devices as these Atom PC's.. I'm a techie and even I get a little confused trying to get DD-WRT onto a x86 machine.
I honestly think there is a huge market here. If Vyatta is doing so well making super routers on x86, DD-WRT needs to step up to the plate.. I'd totally donate to help the cause of making x86 install/config seemless for noobs. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/03/18/vyatta_versus_cisco_7200_study/

Recently I ran into the same problem with this board (but not with dd-wrt). Finally I found out that there must be a 'bootable' partition otherwise the bios won't boot. So try to boot into linux with a cdrom and set a partition 'bootable'. If you have installed grub into the MBR then it does not matter which partition is set to be 'bootable'.
THX hmarton,
i've tested Little Falls2 (D945GCLF2) today. I can confirm the issue smanders described.
"Error message from BIOS states non bootable disk found"
But it's no biggie. Just boot with live CD and use fdisk to toggle bootable flag for DD-WRTs boot partition and it works!
I've got no Little Falls (D945GCLF) board to test, but I'm positive it's the same issue.
PS: Onboard Realtek NIC doesn't autodetect, but module "r8169" works once loaded.
