If I enable any flavor of WPA security my Network name disappears from the list of available networks. SSID broadcasting is still turned on. I cannot even connect to the network by name and using the WPA password.
(Turning on WEP leaves the SSID broadcasting and connectible)

I've read that browser cache is responsible for weirdness like this so I tried to set the WPA security with a fresh install of a completely new browser (Camino) and it does the same thing.

When I connect to the router via CAT5 I can turn WPA security on and off. When I turn it off my SSID appears to broadcast again.

I'm using a Lynksys WRTG54-TM with DD-WRT v24-sp2 (11/30/0Cool mega fimrware.
Edit: I flashed to the dd-wrt.v24-11207_NEWD_mega.bin firmware and get the same results.

I can make other settings, Filter by MAC address, change the network name and so on. WPA or WEP security isn't working.

Any Advice?

Thanks.

Pairustwo.

Done. Several times.

I even upgraded the firmware, hard reset, and reconfigure.

Why in the first half of your post you said WEP works, but in second half you say it doesn't?

There is an error in my first post.

Enabling WEP does not make the SSID disappear.

I am unable to connect to the router when WEP is enabled with some computers, my I think it is a problem with my Macbook Pro because my iMac connects fine with WEP security.

I'd gotten myself a little confused at that point.
It is any flavor of WPA that make the wireless part of the network disappear.

Sounds similar to a problem I had (although I could get it working - then changing other seemingly unrealted settings would make the SSID disappear again. According to http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=37017 early v24 builds had some encryption problems and you should check out the peacock thread. (Haven't yet found out if this solves my problem for a variety of reasons. Long story but basically I'm lazy)

Aarrrg! I've flashed three different versions of the v24 sp2 firmware.
If this isn't a common problem then it probably isn't in the dd-wrt build. Could it be the router it self that has a problem?

It's weird. Enable WAP, the network is gone. Disable WAP, it is back.

I had a that same thing happen to me and I found out the WPA or higher shared key needed to be 8 characters or longer. Once I did that it worked fine.

You are a genius.

I am an idiot. Or more generously...I did not know that.

Now it works.

Thanks everyone and sorry for the bother.

The firmware UI should prevent you from entering less than 8 character WPA key. That's why I didn't mention it.

If it doesn't, that needs to be fixed.

If I remember correctly when I had the problem something did pop up saying it needed to be longer but it went ahead and let me apply the less than 8 character one so I did not think anything of it. If the software needs fixed it should not allow the less than 8 characters to be saved or maybe keep repeating the popup message that it will not work.

I didn't get the pop up. I was using Safari, Camino, and Firefox - on various Macs.

Confused

Here is what the popup looks like from three different browsers.
