The network I am referring to consists of:
UNIT 1 whr-hp-g54 v23 SP1 (WDS to UNIT 2 & UNIT 3)
UNIT 2 whr-hp-g54 v23 SP2 (WDS to UNIT 1)
UNIT 3 whr-hp-g54 v23 SP2 (WDS to UNIT 1)
Data Line is 5mbps/768kbps
It seems that at 20+ concurrent WLAN connections that UNIT 1 is Rebooting. I would like to see if anyone has been able to run more users by doing any of the following:
1) put DD-WRT on a PC based hardware the use whr-hp-g54 just as AP's
2) modified configuration of dd-wrt to accomodate more users.
3) figured out another way to deliver WiFi to approximately 45+ users with 20+ concurrent connections.

Please give me your thoughts.

Below is a more detailed version of the setup.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=--==--=-=-=--=
All units are Buffalo WHR-HP-G54

UNIT 1 v23 SP1
(Main Router acting as controller-dhcp
---WAN Static IP from ISP
---LAN 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0
---WLAN-AP SSID-building1 channel-9 WiFi-b/g
---WDS to UNIT2 (MAC)
---WDS to UNIT3 (MAC)
---Chillispot - does DHCP

UNIT 2 v23 SP2
---WAN Disabled (DHCP Disabled)
---LAN 192.168.1.5 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.1
---WLAN-AP SSID-building2 channel-9 WiFi-b/g
---WDS to UNIT1 (MAC)

UNIT 3 V23 SP2
---WAN Disabled (DHCP Disabled)
---LAN 192.168.1.10 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.1
---WLAN-AP SSID-building3 channel-9 WiFi-b/g
---WDS to UNIT1 (MAC)

UNIT 4 (wish there was dd-wrt for this old thing)
---Linksys WET11 used as a client bridge for those needing a CatV cable connection.

I have no real problems other than the UNIT1 rebooting when 20+ concurrent users are associated.

I am unable to figure out why setting up ports on the UNIT1 forwarded to one of the WDS UNITs IP is failing to allow me to view the GUI of either WDS unit. If I could I would have posted more specific information regarding the set up.

Here's a setup not using WDS that has worked for me...

I have seen as many as 25 concurrent users with this setup I had done. One thing that I would've done differently would be to use a router that had 32MB of RAM instead of 16MB. I would personally try a WRT54GS v2 or v2.1 because they run at 216MHz by default in addition to the 32MB of RAM. The reason I say this is that I notice the memory getting down to like 0.8MB free and only like 0.6MB of buffers left.

Also on each of the access points and the WRT54GL Linksys Router are 9DBi antennas. The access points are broadcasting at 200mW's and the Linksys Router is bumped up to 50mW. Throughout most of the house you get at least 4 out of 5 bars.

Also I wanted to add that I had disabled bit torrent and any other file sharing protocols. I believe before I had done that there were several people using those types of programs and then that would sometimes overload the router due to it only having 16MB RAM and would cause it to reboot. But since then I haven't noticed any reboots in several weeks.

Thank you for the reply. I have tried to do several things with it, and the most hosts I can get online at one time seems to be 15. Also, I believe you are correct on the peer to peer. I dc'ed them and it helped. I have opted for a second data line with individual Routers, it solved all problems due to the lack of memory. Thanks Cisco for F'ing up Linksys.
Thanks

You should try upgrading to v24 SP1. Maybe that'll help you out.

Hi !

Waht you can try is updating to v24. I - think - v23 is not getting updated anymore at this point

I think to remmeber of somebody with a similar problem

you can try to lower the max. connections. Icant find the setting atm but its somwhere.

furhtermore try switching to b-only. At 20 paralell users they should see no difference.

Regards

tec
