Hi Guys!

Just wondering if any one else can confirm two issues:

1. Slooow broadband.

I've got perfect 4meg connection at home and that's enough for me.
With oryginal Asus firmware I'm getting 4meg on my comp (whatever- laptop, pc). With DD-WRT it is only 2,8meg... Hm, bit slow.

2. Very poor wireless falldown. It means that I can't use G becouse too many packets are lost! Heh- not lost, but corrupted so sometimes laptop is connected with 54megabits but I can't get ANY webpage 'coz router is NOT responding!!! (how router can respond to the noise Evil or Very Mad) Even to pings!!!
Shame Sad It is VERY annoing so I've switched back to B-only. Hopefully this will resolve this issue.

Encryption: WPA.

Proved with SNMP.

Any ideas why?
Any questions?

Many thanks for your help.
Cheers!
Chris

Using p2p software?

Did you try downloading a knoppix iso?

I've 6mbit ADSL and steady 650 KB/sec when downloading knoppix via http

Regards,
Ruud

PS: Check if other accespoint in the neighboorhood are using also channel 6

Morning Guys,

I've said EXACTLY what the speed is - no matter which FTP/SITE/SPEED TESTER.
I know how to check my connection, how to set up router and how it should work.

I'm not using P2P, I've less than 30-80 open connections.
ANd if I will connect my modem DIRECTLY to my laptop with ethernet cable- I'm getting 4meg on every speedtester I can think of.

Anyway, thanks for trying :)

Cheers

Update to latest SP2. How do you dial in? What's the maximum transfer speed between two WLAN computers?

Also try safe your config, do a full 30 sek reset, just setup broadband and do a speedtest without any encryption etc. See if that helps. If not, just restore saved config.

Hi Matt,

Should I try latest firmware? Is it safe to try any Alpha soft? Smile)
Will try anyway.
Of course speed between two computers seems to be OK- no problems whatsoever.
Encryption doesn't mattert- I've tried withhout ANY encryption so IT should work.
The other strange thing is that I'm getting 4meg connection WITH Asus firmware+ encryption etc.

Any one else with same problems? If some1 is interested I can provide more details just tell me what you need).

Many thanks for your help!
Cheers

Well, the current SP2 releases are running very stable, so just go ahead and try them.

Please also try to do a full reset and then check WAN speeds. There is a sticky about speed test with the WRT54GL. It seems that the maximum WAN speed with PPPoE and WPA2 is around 12Mbit, so you are not even close to be limited by the router.

12mbits! I'm getting like 2,5mbits Sad
Yes, I've tried FULL reset, no ncryption, no nothing. Just me, my router and my Motorola freeserf modem.

That's it.

Connecting modem to the laptop with SAME patchcord- I'm getting speed doubled almost.
I'm probably going for 10mbits (I'm not too sure as 4 is enough for me)

Cheers!

No1 can confirm those problems?
I'll try White Russian during the week and will post more speedtest results.
Also, will try to run Asus lates soft one more time to prove that dd-wrt IS slowing down my router.
Yes, I know it is bizzare but maybe there is a glich with drivers for WAN connection? Wrong parameters?

Best regards

Just updated to the actual V23 SP2.
And my Asus WL500G-Deluxe is doing well:

I'm getting knoppix iso at 558 KB/s, which is the max of my WAN connection.

I can confirm, ASUS WL500G is slow for Wifi connexion to internet
I've done this test a lots of time :

Two PC, one Asus WL500g and one WRT54gl. The booth routers with DD-WRT V23 SP2 VoiP. Wifi in Mixed mode, WPA-PSK/TKIP

The two routers have exactly the same configuration : I switch between routers by simple replace.

With the ASUS :
Transfert between the 2 PC connected with Wifi : 10 mbs
Transfer between a Wired PC to Internet throw the router : 7mbs
Transfer between each PC connected with Wifi to the Net : 4 mbs

With the WRT54GL :
Transfert between the 2 PC connected with Wifi : 10 mbs
Transfer between a Wired PC to Internet throw the router : 7mbs
Transfer between each PC connected with Wifi to the Net : 7 mbs

I've done an other test :
I've changed le IP adresse of the WRT54GL, change de SSID, connect the 2 routers by Wire on Lan Ports, and disabled DHCP on WRT54GL.
A PC connected with Wifi to the WRT54GL, wich is Lan wired to the Asus, wich is connected to the Net have a transfer rate of 7mbs.

All this confirm that there is something wich make the Asus Slow for connexion between his Wifi Interface and the Wan interface.

I've done an other test : I've flashed back the Asus with last Asus Firmware (1.9.6.0).
For connexion from Wifi to the Net, I've got 7Mbs, the maximum speed of my line.

It seems that the problème of slow connexion between Wifi and the Net appears only with DD-WRT on the Asus WL-500g.

Please try to underclock your ASUS, it helped with my problems under openWRT. (e.g. 240 Mhz)
