Yay, Finally got a jtag working.

JP12 Pin 1 connected to JP1 pin 1 via 100 ohm resistor.

JP12 Pin 3 --100r--> TDI (Pin 2 of parallel port)
JP12 Pin 5 --100r--> to TD0 (Pin 13 of parallel port)
JP12 Pin 7 --100r--> to TMS (Pin 4 of parallel port)
JP12 Pin 9 --100r--> to TCK (Pin 3 of parallel port)
JP12 Pin 10 -------> to GND (Pin 20&25 of parallel port)

Using tornado's jtag v2.1.4

Thanks for your hard work and help with the jtag eko ... now to try and flash something to it! Smile

Wow, after nearly 5 months of fiddling, thanks to Eko and everyone else, everything is finally functional with my router.

Time to play with some wireless N

For those of you that are stuck in TFTP mode, use the attached original firmware file (in bin format without the header) to restore it to the original netgear setup. From there you can restart the process.

Compiled from:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=21255&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 (you really should read the entire saga)

Step 1:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/eko/V24_TNG/svn9856/dd-wrt.v24-9856_NEWD_mini_wnr834bv2.chk

Step 2:
Flash the firmware to your router through the netgear web interface
(note: I was unable to upload this firmware through firefox 2, however firefox 3 and IE worked just fine)

Step 3:
If the mini build is insufficient for your needs download your preferred flash here http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/down.php?path=downloads%2Fothers%2Feko%2FV24_TNG%2Fsvn9856/ via the dd-wrt web interface. (Builds 9856 and later)(I used NEWD OpenVPN)

Notes:

If your router is stuck in 'tftp only' mode (characterized by a constant TTL=100 ping response) TFTP the original netgear firmware *without* the header file (chk) located http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/download.php?id=5495 This will place your router back to netgear's stock 2.1.0.22 North America firmware.

Extremely Important:

According to Eko the nvram of this router has another partition located on it. This partition contains your routers serial number, mac address, and board code. Builds prior to 9856 would overwrite this section of nvram if you enabled JFFS. Builds 9856 and higher include support for turning JFFS on with this model of router

In the event that you erase this part of the nvram, it will require flashing via JTAG.

WNR834Bv2 JTAG Pinout:

J12 Pin 1 connected to JP1 pin 1 via 100 ohm resistor.

J12 Pin 3 --100r--> TDI (Pin 2 of parallel port)
J12 Pin 5 --100r--> to TD0 (Pin 13 of parallel port)
J12 Pin 7 --100r--> to TMS (Pin 4 of parallel port)
J12 Pin 9 --100r--> to TCK (Pin 3 of parallel port)
J12 Pin 10 -------> to GND (Pin 20&25 of parallel port)

Functional nvram backup: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/download.php?id=4233
Functional cfe backup: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/download.php?id=4232
Tornado's JTAG v2.1.4: http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/tornado/jtag/tjtagv2-1-4.zip

Custom bin to fix overwritten nvram 'extra' partition. Enter your mac address into this file at hex locations 40~45 (hex locations are according to xvi32). Custom bin here: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/download.php?id=5501

Use these parameters to flash:
-flash:custom /window:1fc00000 /start:1ffe0000 /length:10000

All problems are fixed (now you can enable jffs too). Use builds 9856 and newer. Chk file is available too for GUI upgrade from original firmware. (mini, then you can flash whatever you want)

Firmware: DD-WRT v24 {07/03/08} vpn
Time: 18:08:53 up 1 min, load average: 0.32, 0.14, 0.04
WAN IP: 67.95.x.y

I upgraded from v24 RC-7 {04/11/08} vpn. The upgrade took about 1 minute. All my previous settings seem to have been retained. I'll test out the VPN tonight.

"Looking good, Louis".

"Feelin' Good, Billy Rae".

Open VPN is working as expected. Very Happy

Prior to the upgrade my unit thought it was on Channel 1. But, alas, it was actually on Channel 11 as reported by VistaStumbler. Changing channels in the interface appeared to work, but the Netgear was always on Channel 11.

Post upgrade the interface is now correctly reporting the channel it is on, and changing channels in the interface is functioning properly. Cool Cool Cool

Well done Eko.

I will update the Netgear section of the Supported Devices page, and I will add a section to the Hardware-Specific section of the Installation page.

ciao,

jas3

Yay .. upgraded here too, router kept previous config too.

I'm using the vpn version.
Now when I go to Wireless->MAC Filter->Edit MAC Filter List
and click on the "Wireless Client MAC List" to see connected clients, my httpd dies.

Firing it up bring the web interface up again, but repeating this will cause it to die again.

On the previous version (RC7 Eko build) this was working fine.

How do I enable JFFS on the VPN build (I've seen that it was disabled, is it enabled on this latest Eko build - VPN ) ?

I've seen options to enable OpenVPN server Smile that's really nice, but can someone tell me if the certificates/.. are going to be stored on NVRAM or it can use JFFS ?

Thanks for the jtag mapping Smile now I'm much more confident to play with the router ;)

Cheers.

I had problems with my wireless network (Router : WPA2 Personal Mixed / AES+TKIP) using wpa_supplicant on linux.

After the upgrade, it negociates the key, validades it, but all I get is network unreachable icmp responses.

I've downgraded back to RC7-9396 and I can confirm that wifi network is working as before (I haven't changed a single option since downgrade) and the "Wireless Client MAC List" is working as expected.

If more information is required, just let me know what should I do ;)

Thanks

1). I've not been able to replicate your httpd problem on my router, although my MAC Filter is set to disable while I'm testing it.

2). JFFS is not enabled. I don't see it under top or with a df.

3). Store your certs on NVRAM.
