Update: Still not fixed as of V24 SP1

Short version: v24 final 'std' DOES have JFFS2, v24 final 'vpn' DOES NOT

Long version: JFFS seems to be missing, at least from the web interface of the VPN build of v24 final.

I installed the std build, in which I can enable it in the Administration tab. After that I installed the VPN build, in which JFFS is nowhere to be found.

What can I do about this?

you need to use an older RC7 build. JFFS2 was removed in the newer builds.

Thats it?

Any particular reason it was disabled?

Thanks for your reply!

However, this does not seem to explain why the 'standard' v24 final build has it, but not the 'vpn' v24 final build. Or does the vpn version specifically not have JFFS2 since RC7?

Intresting, I had not tried the standard version. I needed jffs on the vpn build also so I did not have to re-write my keys on every startup.

Brainslayer removed JFFS to fix some problem. If i'm not wrong, VPN 9346 still has JFFS, but the WAN bandwidth counter is broken on that one. Pick your poison. Laughing

Brainslayer removed the JFFS2 from VPN builds starting from 9369

Ah, that explains it indeed. I'll just install openvpn as optware for now then. Thanks for your help!

Hope it gets put back at some point...

Update: there appears to be a somewhat newer v24 final vpn, http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/down.php?path=downloads%2Fstable%2Fdd-wrt.v24%2FBroadcom%2FAsus%2FWL500g-Premium/.

The one I previously tested was built on 18-05-08, this one's from 20-05-08.

I installed it, however, sadly, there is still no JFFS in this build.

Wouldn't that exceed the flash quota for 4MB flash routers? I thought that was why it was removed in the first place...

I don't see why it would; it never did before. Rc6.2 vpn build for example has VPN and JFFS2, which is what I'm using now. That build is 3.7 MB.

Also, I don't think enabling JFFS2 would cost any extra space?

Well the libraries necessary for loading JFFS might be wort a few kb, no?

Still, I'm curious to see why it was removed; I mean people might install the VPN build on routers with 8MB of flash and without JFFS the remaining 4 MB go to waste.

I still have a few 32mb routers and this stinks Sad I guess I need to get the standard working with openvpn so that I can use jffs.

Any plans to put jffs back into the vpn loads?
