v1 or v1.1 hardware? Is one preferred over the other?

I think that it might have to do with the signature that Linksys seem to have introduced:

http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=30684&start=165#172754

Perhaps upgrading the firmware via the Linksys Web UI insists on a valid signature of the update (probably since 1.01.35 build 5)... At least this would explain the difficulties that people have beginning with this version.

Hmm, I wonder if there is any chance of the 5GHz radio issues getting fixed (mainly the 'wide' 40MHz channel option) before v24 goes final? I might just deploy my WRT600N running at 20Mhz 802.11n 5GHz for the time being and hope that everything else runs stable enough for now...

Until the 600N is working I just run my WRT54G upstream of the 600N. The 54G runs DD-WRT and the 600N runs the stock firmware.

I didn't see the point of losing the gigabit ethernet ports!

This way I get the benefits of both DDWRT firmware and 600N hardware.

Good idea mrjcleaver - I think I will do that as well!

i've been debating doing the same thing, but i'm afraid if i flash the linksys firmware back i wont be able to go back to dd-wrt on my 600n later.

You'll be able to go back. Hell, I could give you a dd-wrt image that will flash over the Web Interface or TFTP right now. The trailer tool doesn't just sign Linksys images!

The official v24 version is released. Did anyone try this on the WRT600N yet?

I uploaded this image I just trailed and confirmed my suspicions that the new switch driver was not included. I'll leave the image up here for those who have no wired devices connected to their router.

Additionally, I'm may look into what it would take to update the switch driver in dd-wrt and will post back with any progress I have made.

WARNING: By uploading this image to your WRT600N v1.1 that shipped with firmware version 1.01.35 build 5 or later, you will lose functionality of the switch resulting in the inability to use wired devices with your router. You have been warned.

dd-wrt.v24_mega_wrt600n_trailed.bin
 Description:
Trailed version of dd-wrt v24 final for the WRT600N running stock firmware version 1.01.35 build 5 or later or for TFTPing on units that require it (all units that shipped with said firmware). WARNING: This image does not contain the new switch driver.

Well, I guess I will have to wait until the new switch drive is loaded... hope it happens soon. I was ready to upgrade and saw the post above.

Each version (mini, mega, micro) represent certain feature sets in the firmware. I just use mini.

If you use DD-WRT, you will most likely lose your wired connection.

Does anyone know if eko or BS are actually working on the switch issue with the WRT600N?

Is the problem with the LEDs fixed yet?
How about the problem with wide channel on 5GHz?

Thanks

I am also wondering if v24 still has problems with the wrt600n. I also see many different versions under the v24/linksys/wrt600n/ directory...but don't know which files are ok to use....Anyone? I have left numerous posts and have not had one answered.

Well, while I was writing this post someone posted the help above... waiting to see if it worked. Thanks...

How did you pick that file of the firmware?

If your router is running version 1.01.35 build 5 or later, then you won't be able to use any wired devices with it after uploading that image. If you have an earlier version, you'll be okay.

To answer your question, though, you can ignore all of the files in that directory that have a model number of a router on them. Those are for use for initially flashing them to those routers. The WRT600N routers before 1.01.35 build 5 could simply be flashed with one of the ones that said generic. The current ones have to be flashed using a special image that hasn't been integrated into the development tree yet, hence why I made that image.

However, I think you're asking about the VOIP, VPN, STD, MEGA, etc. versions, so I'll explain that as well. Most routers used to only have 4MB of flash memory, so the voip and vpn images had some packages taken out to make room for those specific features. The WRT600N has 8MB of flash memory, so you can use the mega image, which includes all of the packages, including VOIP and VPN.

No, neither of those problems have been fixed, although you should be able to fix those LED problems using gpio. I can give you a script after I figure it out.

I've found something...
BCM5701 PHY ID is 0x60008110 and everything else looks the same as BCM54xx. So is it possible to simply change/add this PHY in /drivers/net/phy/broadcom.c at ddwrt source?
I cannot compile the sources, but if anyone can test this (or at least build it)

p.s. jmh9072, i cannot execute mktrailer, it gives me "Floating point exception". Am i missing something? I'm using Slackware 12...
