Well your router will take any size firmware build from Micro to Mega.

You have a 4712 processor so you can run Eko builds of NEWD or VINT...the VINT seems to be the most stable on a 4712 base unit....however, you can not use Multiple VLANs with VINT builds.

If you need multiple VLANs then I suggest you use the BrainSlayer builds located here (it is the latest posted)
http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/down.php?path=downloads%2Fothers%2Feko%2FBrainSlayer-RC7-9414%2FBroadcom/

If you don't use multiple VLANs then I would load it with a VINT build from here.
http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/down.php?path=downloads%2Fothers%2Feko%2FRC7-9396/

Again...you can use any size you like including the Mega builds.

For a list of features (not complete) and a chart of the different builds check here

Thanks for your response! You obviously know your stuff! I dont. I just need the one you would recommend nothing fancy just the most updated and versatile. I will trust your judgement

Compared to the version that I have, what would you suggest? I guess the Mega is not available.

Try the Eko VINT standard build.

http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/eko/RC7-9396/dd-wrt.v24-9396_VINT_std.bin

remember to do a hard reset before and after installing the firmware....then configure.

I am running BS9414 on my WRT54GS, standard-nokaid.

The only problem I seem to be having is changing DHCP options makes it so wireless clients cant receive DHCP (but statically assigning addresses work).

Edit: NM, that issue is now fixed Smile See post below

Hi, I have a Linksys WRT54GS 1.0 (serial CGN1) router with stock firmware version 2.07.1, also I have a Linksys WRT54GL 1.1 (serial CL7B) with DD-WRT v24 RC-7 build 9433 flashed succesfully by mine. But I don't know that version of DD-WRT v24 RC-7 install to my WRT54GS, there are "NEWD", "VINT" and "generic" versions and I don't know the flashing procedure (upload first the "mini" version and after the "std" version, as the WRT54GL flashing procedure, or upload inmediately the "std" or "mega" version) for the WRT54GS 1.0 router. I have plan to use the WRT54GS router in Repeater mode. Thanks for the response.

P.D.: Excuse me for my english, isn't my native language. I also post my question in spanish.

The GSv1.0 has a 4712 processor. It will run best on VINT builds but regular will also work.

Try the VINT build first. Just update it through the web gui directly.

Hard reset the unit BEFORE and AFTER the update

@redhawk0, I just install the firmware DD-WRT v24 RC-7 build 9433M Eko (VINT mega) in the WRT54GS 1.0 with no problems, the flashing procedure is easier than flashing procedure for the WRT54GL. I also tested the Repeater Mode (the WRT54GS working as repeater of the WRT54GL, with WEP encryption in both routers, and works very well. Thanks for the help. Cheers.

P.D.: Excuse me for my english, isn't my native language. I also post my question in spanish.

También probé el Modo Repetidor (el WRT54GS trabajando como repetidor del WRT54GL, con encriptado WEP en ambos routers, y trabaja muy bien. Gracias por la ayuda. Saludos.

Hi,
Can you suggest a Mega build for my WRT54GS V2 ?
I am currently running a mini build from the beta branch.

dd-wrt.v24preSP2 - 12-22-2014 - r25697 - -
dd-wrt.v24_mini_wrt54gs.bin

Can i try the Mega file from the same build ?
i haven't faced any problem on the mini build, i would consider it stable enough.

I am just worried if a Mega version is flashed it might brick my WRT54GS V2 router.

thanks.

1. You seriously necro'd two threads? The other one is pretty irrelevant. Neutral
2. The latest mega build 33492 was reported successful on the GSv2, by the immortal mrjcd.
3. Fyi, your signature says you're currently running 13491M VINT Eko. Smile

DD-WRT rocks !!! ... complete package ... 100% community support.

and sorry about the posts on 2 threads, as the last activity on both had been quite a while back, posted on both to improve my odds.

And thanks for the heads up on the latest build reported by the immortal on your thread ... went without a hitch, i did not reset anything just picked up the downloaded file from the firmware update section and bang latest one flashed ... i didn't even have to setup from afresh. The settings from the last working build carried forward successfully !!!

tested even a VPN pass through ... worked fantastic.

PS : My signatures updated and with an addition, The world's so much better with a DD-WRT eco system.

Its highly recommended to reset and manually setup after such a jump, though probably less important on the k2.4 builds.
Anyway, just be sure to do that first if you have any issues in the future!

Btw, I never met a WRT54* that wouldn't run at least 250 MHz (well, except the Gv1 (125MHz stock) and the 5354 which is locked at 240, but I never had either). Smile I always add a heatsink to be safe, but not needed on the BCM5xxx chips, and probably not needed regardless unless in a warm environment or running over 250 (which most can't; but the WRT54GSv1.x could go 262).

Side note; why isn't the E900 your primary router? It is faster, can run the latest 33492 k3.x build (cuz it has 64KB more flash than most 8MB routers), and can use SFE accelerated NAT. I'm running it on my E1500 @ 353MHz (manually set in nvram; no GUI option).

hmmmmmm ... though i've been using DD-WRT firmwares on my routers ... i believe i am not capitalizing on its potential enough 10% or may be less ... I use them as repeaters, with a little static IP's assigned to some of my devices ... and a few days ago attempted VPN passthroughs ... PPTP ...

Over clocking - haven't really gone that road ...

However i am researching at how best to modd my routers to add a heat sink and a 25mm fan ... as i recently increased Tx to 100 so just looking at some manual cooling options ...

I have been very interested in expanding the range of the router ... may be through an external antenna ... any suggestions to this effect ? I shop on aliexpress.com so if you have any suggestions would come real handy.

Ah and about the e900 being my primary router ... its not mine but my neighbours ... it actually is the primary router of sorts to my setup ... Very Happy ... it is the router whose signal my GS repeats and my secondary repeats this GS repeater. Very Happy

What is this 'SFE accelerated NAT' ...
&
What are k builds ?

Is there a thread which briefly describes what are different builds and what are their minimum requirements and their feature sets ?

Can i PM you ... for any personal queries ?

thanks.
