pardon for the total obvious not being seen here, but on the compatibility list for dd-wrt, it lists a linksys wap54g.

other than plugging the broadband connection into the wap itself and having an all wireless network, is it possible to have wired clients connect through it as the router? I've got a few of these laying around, and if I could plug it into my switch, and have it route my internet traffic, that would be great, but I'm not sure how this is accomplished? can anyone provide me some insight?

You can use a WAP as your main router (as long as its not a WAP V3 or V3.1....there is a problem with the LAN to WAN switch on these units)

Then setup another WAP as a repeater Bridge to this router and you can use the LAN port for a single wired computer....you could have as many of these as you like.

Yes it work on my Linksys WAP-54G Version 3.1
I managed to turn it into wired router. Where my wireless act as WAN port and the lan port as a client port. Thank you eko. 8)

Which exactly firmware did you use?
There are many EKO builds to choose from. And the wrong choice leads to brick.

Works with all the releases NEWD micro from 9300 on.
The only thing that should work ( from the chipset side) and does not is the multiple SSIDs with different MACs. I am not sure if that is due to any limitation in the micro versions...

I tried this but VLAN isn't an option with the micro builds so how the hell do you do this? I could really use this at a client site.

Edited to say that the WAP works fine as a router. Only wireless connections work but that's what I needed. Works great so far in my tests. Put it in place tomorrow and see what happens.

Can you tell me how you configured it? I need to configure a wap54g as a router for wireless clients.
How do I set get the LAN port to act as the WAN port if the wan_to_lan doesn't work with v3 of the WAP54G?

I use 2.4 final, since 2.4sp1 doesn't work fine on this WAP54G.

Now my startup commands are like this:

nvram set et0macaddr=00:14:blabla
nvram set WAPver=3
nvram commit

I found a bug in NVRAM and startup commands in the wap54g. The ping_ip variable also has the startup commands. So I had to clear it by hand.

I also tried to set the wan_ifnames to eth0, eth1 or VLAN0 and VLAN1. I have tried a lot.

Can someone tell me what the physical adaptername of the LAN port is? Is it eth0 or eth1? Also I see that the lan is attached to bridge br0.

Please help me out. Some info is very hard to find/rare on the net.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

Try to use VLAN page, put all lan ports to vlan1.

Thanks. I will try that and let you know. I have tried putting the W into VLAN0 (the opposite to your suggestion).

Is it known that 2.4sp1 does not run very well on WAP54g v3? Every time I commit something to nvram it comes up again with factory defaults. 2.4 final works ok.

For every linksys user. Set wireless > Advanced like this:
Tx antenna: auto
Rx antenna: left or right (not auto)
preamble: auto

Check the Transmit errors on the wireless status. No more errors, fast throughput :O)

Cheers

OK.

NEWD for WAP54g?

Thanks

edit: Thanks EKO. If you were a girl I would kiss you :D

Moving all LAN ports to VLAN1 did the trick for turning it into a router. (wiki item for single LAN port AP's?)

Still (even with your TNG 10404 newd) I had problems with the start commands (for commands see earlier).
It looks like you must give the startup commands after a factory reset > then reboot > then do the other changes.
