I was using 9600, 8, 1, None, and None (Putty) and have now tried 2400, 4800, 7200, 14400, 19200, and 115200 and get garbled text in different ways. What other causes could there be?

There is an "update driver" but it is already set to look for the specific filenames for the prolific driver files and won't accept anything else.

I had to use Hardware flow control in Hyperterminal for the thing to work. Worth a try.

i use it without hardware flow control. i know several reasons for it. and one is a broken max323 chip, which can be caused if you swapped gnd and v+3.3 anytime

just do fconfig -i to recover your data

thanks Very Happy

by the way, there's a cosmetic error. The RC7 build should be "mega" instead of "std" on the top right hand corner.

I've tried all three Flow control options with 9600 8-N-1 and all of them get me garbled text (which appears to be consistent).

Just to make sure my physical setup is correct... On the F*n, the middle pin of the row facing the RAM is connected to the middle pin of the 5 pin row of the serial connector which is a factory-made USB-to-Serial RS232 converter. The F*n's pin closest to the edge in the row facing the RAM is the GND which I connected to the 5th pin of the serial (same row as the other pin, to the right, if looking at a male connector with the 5-pin row on top). I only need these two pins connected to get the correct text to show up, right?

EDIT:
Mixed myself up there, wow. I meant that the F*n's middle pin connects to the 2nd pin of the serial connection, in other words, one to the left of the middle pin.

My router is bricked. I used a serial cable and the serial console. I followed the commands here
http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=29779 and I got the router page to come up once at 192.168.1.1. I changed the subnet of the router, did a save and apply settings and then it was non responsive with a static and dynamic ip. I reflashed again with the same instructions and no go, it won't do anything. Anyone have any ideas???

Same problem here:
If you reflash the fw the nvram stays unattached. For this reason you must reset the nvram. Hold the reset button for about 15 sec. Then you will see the default configuration (192.168.1.1).

But the main problem still exists (I can confirm it):
If you change the IP (e.g. in Client mode), you can't access the fonera. Only a reset solves the problem.

Any solutions?

I have a 2200, one ethernet model, that I just bought a few days ago. I don't need this for a few days so I don't mind testing more. Any other ideas??

Ok that was really stupid of me to forget about the TTL-to-Serial converter, I'd been connecting the F*n's pins directly to the RS232.. Anyway, I "made" the circuit and now am in the serial console. After fis init and fconfig -i, I still couldn't get into redboot through ethernet following the normal flashing instructions. But, I just booted with serial console and then connected the ethernet with the IP still set to 192.168.1.166blah and did
ip_address -l 192.168.1.254/24 -h 192.168.1.166
and was able to do the rest of the flash through serial while loading through TFTP through ethernet. Yay.

Now all three LEDs can and will light up meaning the boot script worked (watched it work through serial anyway) but no matter how long I wait, the router will never respond, and I dont see the default "dd-wrt" AP when I search wireless. Setting the PC to 169.254.255.2/255.255.0.0/etc wont get me a response from pinging 192.168.1.254 ever, either. Setting the PC to auto/DHCP wont get me an IP. What do I do now?

EDIT:
EDIT2: <snip> I got it working by doing "fis init -f" and then flashing.

Many thanks for this release BrainSlayer Wink !!

I have found three problems in this RC7 ...

If i set two foneras, with the latest RC7, in WDS AP + WDS Station the link working but under Wireless Packet Info i don't see any information :(

If i set the fonera in Client Bridge i can't set the tx power ... it always remains to 17 or 18 db !

There are also, always if i set in client bridged mode, more errors in tx rx statistics ... it's normal ?

Why does removing and reattaching the antenna on the F*n create a 20+SNR change with both Primary and Secondary antenna choices? Shouldn't only one of them be affected?

You can't ping addresses while in different subnet, only if you have a gateway in between.
With 169.254.255.2/255.255.0.0 you can only ping addresses like 169.254.*.*

I got client mode to work if I set the Fon IP first and set the WAN connection to DHCP last. I have not tried changing the IP address of Fon after I got the client to work.

Can you only change the WAN port after you setup the client since there is only one ethernet port on the back??
