Hello,

I've tried the software on my WRT54G V8 and I bricked it. I recovered from that but then bricked it again and couldn't recover.

So I went to the store to buy another.

It has just dawned on me. Instead of asking the question of how to get the software onto my V8, how about this angle?

What router should I buy?

Also... Anybody want to buy a brick?

ah! thats the question everybody wo wants to buy a new router should ask himself and us.

watch this
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices

all of the routers with 4mb flash & >=16mb ram will be great!
atheros vs broadcom
depending on the price u will pay.

buffalo are always a good choice for beginners.

Thanks for the reply.

WRT54G V8 isn't listed in the list at http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices. On the other hand, it's listed in the install instructions that I used.

So the WRT54G is not a good candidate for a purchas because when you buy it you get a V8 and the V8 isn't listed.

So my question is which routers have the current version supported? (What you'd get if you buy it).

What if you are located in the USA? I have been a big fan of the buffalo routers and now that we can not get them I am at a loss on what router to buy that is available at bestbuy or Office Depot that performed just as well as the buffalo router.

What's a good alternative?

good ones?

asus or linksys wrt350n/600n v1

they should be available in the us.

for cheaper ones u have to check the supportlist and whats listed at your stores....

but dont buy devices with only 2mb flash/8mb ram
u wont have fun with em

I noticed the wrt350n is available in a local computer store and it isn't too expensive. How can I figure out if the version I will get is compatible?

Have a look at the wiki document http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices. This shows you what versions are supported.

You may have misunderstood my initial question. The list at this Web site shows what routers and versions are supported. But when you're buying a router, you don't know which version of the router you're getting.

I noticed that the WRT350N router was $275. It had quite a few bad reviews in the internet.

I wasn't sure if it would work because I don't know what version was in the box. (I'm sure I can tell what versions work from this Web site), but there's no list of what routers have their current version supported.

So given that the WRT54G routers were on sale for $60, I just got three of those. So I now have 5 of these routers working with DD-WRT.
