hi there,

I just got my WRT250N v1 and read through a couple of threads here in this forum. You have done an excellent job in adding USB support to DD-WRT.

I'm a noob in Linux and DD-WRT and have some issues getting my printer running with Rekoils latest FW.

I have setup my printer in WinXP as follows:

Quote:
Windows XP:

Find your printer in Control Panel - Printers etc. and open the properties page for it.
Select the Ports tab.
Click Add Port and choose Standard TCP/IP printer port and click New Port
Enter you router's IP address (normally 192.168.1.1) and click Next
Set Device type to custom and click settings.
Make sure RAW is selected and specify the necessary port number (normally 9100) and click OK
Click Next and Finish and Close
Make sure the newly created port is selected for your printer and click OK

but I couldn print. I have a Canon MP780 AIO and have turned on bidirectional printing. If I disable that, I'll get an error message that print-spooler couldn't communicate. If I turn it on, it collects data but hat: timeout ;-(

I just want to make shure, that my DD-WRT is working properly. Here is ma dmesg:

I have now figured out, that I had forgotten some installation-aspects.

I have now installed driver p910nd
and included a startup file /jffs/etc/config/printer.startup

Quote:
/jffs/etc/config # vi printer.startup
# Canon MP780 bidirektional unter USB1
/jffs/usr/sbin/p910nd -b -f /dev/usb/lp0 0

# USB 2 noch unbenutzt
# /jffs/usr/sbin/p910nd -b -f /dev/usb/lp1 1

made this file executable with chmod a+x
Quote:
/jffs/etc/config # ls -l
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 158 Jan 1 1970 printer.startup
/jffs/etc/config #

But I still couldn't access the printer.

It seems, that the printer is correctly binded:

Quote:
/jffs/etc/config # dmesg | grep usb
usb.c: registered new driver usbdevfs
usb.c: registered new driver hub
usb.c: new USB bus registered, assigned bus number 1
usb.c: registered new driver usb-storage
usb.c: registered new driver usblp
printer.c: usblp0: USB Bidirectional printer dev 2 if 1 alt 0 proto 2 vid 0x04A9 pid 0x1707
printer.c: usblp1: USB Bidirectional printer dev 2 if 2 alt 0 proto 2 vid 0x04A9 pid 0x1707

but I don't know if the printer spooler is working.

Is there any linux command to see if the spoller is working properly?

Sorry for those Linux neewbe questions

finally I got it working Laughing

my printer CANON MP780 doesn't work in bidirectional mode with p910n. I had to correct startup into:

/jffs/usr/sbin/p910nd -f /dev/usb/lp0 0

and switch off bidirectional mode within the windows printer setup.

Just wanted to say thanks to Cascade for all his hard work.
I got USB printing set up and working.
Only problem I had, which I'm still not sure how i resolved was:
'Ipkg update' was not working. It would'nt do anything, but it finally downloaded the new lists and i followed the dd-wrt printer sharing guide from there.

Thanks again CaScAdE!

Is there a RC5 release with USB hard drive and printer support? I want to try and set up my 500Gig seagate external and 2 USB 1.1 printers ...

I'm also trying to set up a 400GB external Seagate USB drive. I'm a total newb to this generation of DD-WRT, so I may have just not found the answer on the forums, yet.

For several of us, the USB backup drive feature is a key value add for this particular router (WRT-350N). Given the sheer beauty and elegance of DD-WRT, it's a brutally hellish trade-off to consider rolling back to the stock linksys software, just for this one key feature.

On the other hand, it's a huge vote for DD-WRT that I'd almost be willing to *not* roll back, because DD-WRT is clearly so much more powerful, giving us actual control of our own networks. Thanks to all for an absolutely FANTASTIC product!

Due to the lack of official support, I figured while we're waiting I'll make my own USB enabled build Very Happy, so here goes.

The following is included in the package:
- USB support (only 2.0 enabled, not 1.1)
- file systems: ext2, ext3, fat, vfat, hfs+
- printer support
- built in startup script which loads everything
- USB destination when installing ipkg's (points to /opt) to use type ipkg -d usb install <package name>

This is awesome. I never cease to be amazed at the generosity and creativity in the software community. As much as I hate the fact, I'm writing to request hpfs/ntfs file systems support, as well. Unfortunately, many of us are forced to interface with the windoze world in the workplace, etc. *sigh*

Thanks for all the hard work.

Easy way to get v24RC5 to automount a usb-disc and start samba

Since so many are asking for samba and usb-disk:

CaScAdE wrote:
Testing Image of v24rc5 std including automount of usb-disc and starting samba on it

So, here it is, a fresh testing image I made for a friend of mine. It includes webcam support and automounts a attached usb-drive.
The first partition should be an ext2/3 and will be mounted as /opt + EVERY .startup script will be run afterwards, so easily extend it for more features!
The rest will be numbered and mounted in /tmp/automount

- Download the file from filebeam rc5autosamba.7z
- extract the samba-stick-part1.tar.gz to your first partition (ext2/3 please!)
- flash the dd-wrt.v24_std_generic.RC5.usb-webcam-mod-automount-samba.bin to your usb-enabled router (tested on Asus WL 500 gP).

The image itself does check for usb-disc on bootup, mounts it and runs EVERY .startup on its firs partition. So you can easily add more and more and more Smile Like NFS or stuff like it... nslu2 packages will mostlikely work when installed to /opt

I know it is dirty shit but workes for the friend how begged me to do it and since many people around here are begging for samba as well i thought it could be worth posting it.
And yes: the image itself does not include samba, it would be really tooo big... so samba is on the usb-drive which should work out just as well. at least it works here.

Samba packages taken from nslu2-linux.org

Maybe some will give it a try and think it is usefull... Works here, maybe great for you too...

Its obviously mounting but samba doesn't appear to be running????? Browsing to my router I'm not able to access my thumbdrive. Must be doing something stupid. Running Vista.

ok changed permissions on the flash drive folders and manually ran the samba.startup script. That ran with no problems:

 2003 root       1200 S   /opt/sbin/nmbd -D

But when I go to browse to the router I get an error that there is a problem with the attached device.

Hmm... what for? If I drop support the people who have donated to me will get mad at me. So I will not take money... So I stay as free as I am...
Some people already asked via PrivMess but I don't want to rob some poor guys their last cents... But if you really want to, drop me a line and I will give you my paypal-address :-)

hum, strange... the ext3 module gets loaded? any hints in dmesg? can you mount it manually?

I don't know why people would get mad at you if you did drop support. But then again people are like that.

DD-WRT along with most of the open source or freeware I use is important. I feel it's right to reward or support them when they get something right. $1 or 2 goes a long way in encouragement and letting them know it means something to someone out there. If someone does stop supporting it that's fine, I treat it as them doing the community a favour and have no obligations.

I'm still having some troubles getting Samba to work properly. But I have some investigating to do before I even know what to ask or report. But I seem to be getting what someone else mentioned drive mounts but samba doesn't load.
