I've been using channel 100 with VHT80 for my WDS AP (wlan 0) and there's a virtual 5 GHz AP (wlan 0.1) also. My Pixel 7 connects to wlan 0.1 but my "new" Pixel 9 will not. While troubleshooting, I tried different WDS AP channels (I assume that the VAP follows this channel assignment) but the WDS Stations will only connect on channel 100. In the past the WDS Stations followed whatever channel I set the WDS AP. Aside of rolling back on the firmware, what can I do to resolve this issue?

Netgear R9000 (WDS AP) - firmware r61981 - 802.11ac only

Netgear R7800 (x5) (WDS Stations) - firmware r62890.

Moved to Atheros because R9000, R7800 is Atheros and WDS is not Advanced Networking nor is it identical across hardware platforms.

The Pixel 9 works on a 5 GHz hotspot at Burger King so it must be a compatibility issue with this particular phone. Time for new routers? I don't know if I can find newer routers that have better compatibility and still work within my Netgear WDS network. If not, I'll risk the headache of creating a mesh network (that supposedly works with any brand). Did I mention that my son's iPhone 14 won't connect to our network on 5 GHz either? (We couldn't get that phone to work on Consumer Cellular either). All of our other android phones plus our laptops connect OK to 5 GHz.

I still need to resolve the issue with the channels where the WDS stations won't connect except on channel 100.

It has been that way since 57956 as far as I know.

I was able to get the Pixel 9 Pro to connect to the VAP by changing the Network Mode for wlan0 from "AC Only" to "AC/N mixed". Turns out that the iPhone will connect now also. Not exactly the solution I was looking for.
