It works with the old builds and the R7800; I tested it myself.

It should also work with the DSA builds, but apparently the implementation is faulty depending on the router.
For example, I have feedback from the Marvel forum that the DSA stuff doesn't work properly.

If you create a VLAN interface WAN.X and use it as a WAN port, make sure that the “wan” interface is not bridged (simply set it to unbridged) as it is not used.

It must also not have an IP address, this is incorrect in the link posted by matjazk.
