Good morning,
I am currently using the Netgear R7800 router which I am satisfied with. Unfortunately, the changed connection needs are making it less and less performing. I would like to replace it to handle speeds not lower than gigabit with VLAN, Wifi, NAS etc active. Wanting to project myself to future 10gbit networks, I don't know what to choose. Is it better to have a fully integrated router or an x86 (compact) router with Wifi? Budget around $250/300.
Thank you.

mini/micro PC formwate there are may on the Amazon/Ebay/alibaba and ect.. than consider to pay for annual license (not that expensive)...you can get a powerful router like Dynalink WRX36 or ect...
at the moment recent builds lots of work in progress...so performance is questionable...

Spending a lot of money on not being sure about performance leaves me perplexed about the opportunity to make the change.
Does anyone have experience on the verge of having any other advice?
Thanks.

I'm using a so called "firewall appliance" from Amazon (some chinese product).
It is a small passive cooled x86 PC, 2*2,5Gbit/s via intel 226v chipset powered by and old intel N4000 dual core CPU.

It is able to perfectly fine serve anything here in the network with dd-wrt installed.
And during my tests with iperf 3 I was able to almost max out the connection between it and my PC.

My WAN speed is only 600 Down 300 Up, so not comparable to your up to 10g request, but it works perfect here.

I'd bet a newer N100 powered Appliance is able to fit your demands.
But finding them with 10Gbit/s onboard? Surely I havent seen any with this Ethernet configuration.

For WiFi I replaced my R7800 and went with a Linksys MR7350 and am pleased with its Wifi 6 performance (~9xx Mbit/s).
I also have a MR7500 with 6GHz Wifi, and it tops currently at ~12xx Mbit/s against an m2 Wifi card.
The neat thing about it: Its WAN Port is capable for up to 5Gbit/s, the 7350 is a 1Gbit/s device.

Cannot complain, but please keep in mind, my network is only 2,5 Gbit/s.

Is it not possible to connect a Wifi pendrive on the USB and make everything work from the appliance firewall Question I looked for models with more ethernet ports, but I would need 6, in addition to the port in connection to the network. Exist Question
Thank you
