Currently I have two of these units, both having the same settings backup on to test & flash with the same version firmware.
The interesting part...
My first unit that once failed a upgrade flash because I left the mounted jffs usb drive in, will fail the upgrade, every time, doesn't seem to matter how I upgrade, renaming the file to firmware.bin in tmp, GUI (not ran CLI upgrade on these Dynalink) it always seems to fail to a none bootable device, I then have to run the original initramfs.itb usb and using the wiki from number 6 onward I think it is to recover it. Noting that the second router will upgrade just fine even with the same settings file installed and same firmware upgrade version!
one thing I noticed that the router that fails the upgrade is offset to slot 1 where as the router with the same settings backup flashes no problem is offset to slot 2.
could this be the issue?
Not saying this is the cause but ever since my flash failed I have been with this issue, every time I upgrade it soft bricks this router.
I only used the same settings file on both routers to test to make sure this was not the problem!
if this router that fails could be made use slot 2 again this would be interesting to test if this was the cause.
If yours is failing please let us know what yours is returning, slot 1 or 2 when your recovering it, the original flash and on my second Dynalink router that will upgrade returns slot 2.

mine is slot 2 ...

so far i flashed it..so many times via GUI...with no issues..and even via CLI with USB on the slot mounted (few times)...then i noticed it was reporting out of mem and decided to not flash via CLI anymore...and continued only with GUI flash...only.. and ever since ive read about USB issues and unmountin USB is recommended, i do so...(in order to not provoke it)...

My overall goal was to replace one of my R7800 with it, but the lack of CLI flash keeps me away...i even started to question myself, if its so pretentious, do i really need that unit... Laughing Cool

for the record...im using
NSS-ECM enabled
QCA subsystem enabled...
only 2.4Ghz radio
x4 vllan's on their own bridge with dhcpd
DNScrypt-proxy v2 via Entware (USB)
ndpi and some, l7 and risk rules and some security rules - enabled (not sure if its doing anything as there is no blocked stuff counts)...it always shows 0, even if i select few services to block like hotmail, facebook and others it doesn't...i did select few macs and a range of IP to use the ndpi restrictions, but still nothing...the thing is, even if i disable it, some of the rules stay and cant get rid of those, only reset and manual recompile helps...i did stop digging and testing ndpi restrictions, as im fed up with it..so, yes it stays enabled...as im lazy to reset... Embarassed
I also have some IPset firewall rules...and some iptables rules...
and DNSmasq blacklist too...
as well its a VPN client...

slot 1 seems to be the common denominator so far?
did your problems start from a failed upgrade, from leaving a mounted jffs usb in during upgrade?

Actually , i have a ssd plug in USB port , but all times i made a gui upgrade i removed it
. But flash fail ..

For remover it i need to boot from a openwrt usb mounted in a usb flash .

After it boots from openwrt , i use factory to dd .. made some comands by ssh .. and it upgrade ... dd-wrt boots fine again

...

Thanks

After a failed upgrade seems to switch to slot 1 and further upgrades then fail.
seems i am not alone anyway.

If you the grandmaster can't figure it out, us mere mortals have very little chance Laughing
Hopefully you'll pop back to this thread and keep us informed when you want us to try a fix once you find the problem.
Thanks BS for all your hard work

Just wondered if you have had anytime to look for the problem & fix in the latest release?
I struggle to follow what device the code change of trac SVN is for sorry.

well...if that makes any difference (probably not) i used 23.05.5 for initial flash instead of the linked file...now it seams they even ve build an ipq807x image for the new 24.10.1 https://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/24.10.1/targets/qualcommax/ipq807x/...

I dont know if its worth it to experiment...but as i guess OpenWRT is only transitional flash and shouldn't make any difference...unless im wrong Razz Razz

I hope Dynalink WRX36 development will not be abolished as, this buddy does work very well...
Once Im back...in few days...will try to update to the new DDWRT firmware and post results..

I have no problem updating 1 x Dynalink router, but the other that's on slot 1 fails each time. Has yours ever failed upgrade? Mine failed from leaving in a USB jffs mounted flash drive some time ago before I was aware of the issue, after recovery you'll notice it comes back on slot 1 and this is where it fails, well for me and some others so assume it would be the same for you.

Well...previously i had numbers of updates without umont my USB /opt as i never liked /jffs and do all the stuff from /opt ... my Entware or whatever, scripts and ect. is always using /opt...
but...my OpenWRT recovery file was in directory so, no direct access on reboots..than removed it completely..so its not on that usb im using for /opt stuff..
Also did numbers of CLI flashes before...i notice out of ram stuff...
for the record i did also CLI flash where i did DL the file on /opt instead of /tmp and said again, out of ram...ever since i do only GUI flash..

The only odd thing that have happened, during the initial flash....when i had to use WINSCP there ware x2 /tmp directory's and i didn't know which to use so, i placed the flash file in both of them as i didn't want to go all the way back...no idea if this interfered anyhow but, flash went normal...
and yes it was on slot 2 ...haven't done recovery yet and i hope not Razz Razz so, far so good...
as i said, i used v5 of Openwrt not the one from ddwrt-wiki and can see the new 24.10 is around have you tried with it....instead of...dont know if it will make any difference...as OpenWRT is initramfs-uImage only...as well i haven checked OpenWRT to see if they have any issues with it...recently... Cool

p.s. do you mean when it was on slow 2 and fails, than after recovery it comes back as slot 1 ??
than what is left on slow 2, may be there is the issue, it needs to clear slot 2 and force back to slot 2 if possible...instead of using slot 1 as it will be messy inn'it Razz

That is how it appears.

After bad flash, recovering the unit, we noticed that
Get the offset of mtd18 to determine the current OEM slot:
# cat /sys/class/mtd/mtd18/offset
returned back with:
current offset is 16777216 (0x1000000), the current OEM slot is 1.
not
the current offset is 127926272 (0x7a00000), the current OEM slot is 2, Like it was before it failed the flash.

we assume this is the issue but only an assumption currently. But seems to be the same for everyone suffering from this.

I thought it may be as simple as forcing it back to slot 2 myself, but after BS stated he had the same issue on his I assumed the main man would have tried that.
Fingers crossed this gets sorted as the router is great.

hmm...is it just me, but our DDWRT Wiki guidelines and OpenWRT look reversed or typo or misspelled or whatever.. Razz or im wrong...(if so, im on the same boat)

If the current offset is 16777216 (0x1000000), the current OEM slot is 1.
If the current offset is 127926272 (0x7a00000), the current OEM slot is 2.

Define the flash partitions:

If the current OEM slot is 1, run:

# fw_setenv mtdparts 'mtdparts=nand0:0x6100000@0x1000000(fs),0x6100000@0x7a00000(fs_1)'

If the current OEM slot is 2, run:

# fw_setenv mtdparts 'mtdparts=nand0:0x6100000@0x7a00000(fs),0x6100000@0x1000000(fs_1)'

or my poor understanding...of OEM slot (the stock firmware)

https://forum.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Dynalink_DL-WRX36

also anyone tried to reverse to stock and than ongoing to ddwrt...

# md5sum Dynalink-RT5010W-d350-V1.10.01.201_sysupgrade_firmware_wififw.bin
c368dbf24e24df16d61b97a40feb5a92 Dynalink-RT5010W-d350-V1.10.01.201_sysupgrade_firmware_wififw.bin

the steps form

https://openwrt.org/toh/dynalink/dl-wrx36#tab__part_1_option_b_-_use_a_serial_connection_33v_to_copy_and_boot_initramfs

will update to the recent ddwrt 61648 in a bit...(just pissed with last Entware update didn't have the last DNScrypt-proxy v2 i was waiting for so long)

p.s. 61648 GUI update was fine..
