Router model R7800
Upgraded from build 60771 to 61202 a little while ago.

Couldn't access the GUI at first.
After a reboot I saw a GUI page for a few seconds.
Everything else the router is supposed to do, seemed to work as usual, like accessing web pages from wan. Great.

Local SSH to the router also worked like I have had it set up, key-based access, port changed from default, so restarting the HTTP-daemon seemed like a smart thing to try. Had to look up the command, which is from a distant past:
service httpd restart.

After each and every GUI page reload or change, the httpd needs to be restarted for the page to load. Other than that, everything I tried and look up in the GUI seemed OK.

Because of a warning not to save any changes, I didn't do any tests.

As @Alozaros already mentioned there is no record in the syslog of the firmware being flashed as would be normal (I have a rsylog server running).
No signs of the httpd crashing in the log, but the restarts are logged OK.

The httpd crashing at every use of the GUI is bad, but I'm happy the router can be used this way and keep up with the recent changes in 'networking'.

Not too bad compared to my previous attempts to flash newer builds, which invariably resulted in a loss of WAN access.

Let's see how this build continues to run ...

I believe the warning above only applies to vlan filtering.

No idea what you are doing...I didn't have any GUI crashes..im always using pale-moon browser in private mode...

I did play with vlan's today and all went well...kind of...didn't manage to lock myself out...
but something is odd definitely...also read tons of DSA documentation and I'm still learning...its a try and err in my case... it would be good when things are 100% working...and ive never needed a vlians in terms of tag'ing to segment the traffic...for a single port...in my case i just need a ports that do not communicate with each other....

Router/Version: Linksys EA8500
File/Kernel: dd-wrt-webflash-ea8500-r61202.bin
Previous/Reset: Mostly alpha releases
Mode/Status: Testing
Issues/Errors: Working VERY well. Up 10 hrs

- Flashing this build also did not show up in the live serial console. No biggie as it was successful.
- VLANs working with Vlan Tagging enabled (do not enable trunking as it will lock you out of all ports unless configured correctly). See below.
- If using untagged VLAN1, it must be at the bottom of the vlan filters list, at least for MY configuration, to work correctly. This is only necessary to allow a single Ethernet connection to still access the router on the trunk port.

With Trunking on bridge disabled:
Code:
port              vlan-id
lan1              1 PVID Egress Untagged
                  10
                  11
                  12
lan2              1 PVID Egress Untagged
lan3              1 PVID Egress Untagged
lan4              1 PVID Egress Untagged
br0               1 PVID Egress Untagged
                  10
                  11
                  12
wlan0             10 PVID Egress Untagged
wlan0.1           11 PVID Egress Untagged
wlan0.2           12 PVID Egress Untagged

With Trunking on bridge enabled:
Code:
port              vlan-id
lan1              1 PVID Egress Untagged
                  10
                  11
                  12
br0               1 PVID Egress Untagged
                  10
                  11
                  12
wlan0             10 PVID Egress Untagged
wlan0.1           11 PVID Egress Untagged
wlan0.2           12 PVID Egress Untagged

Notice the only lan port visable is lan1. You MUST add vlan1 to ALL lan ports untagged with PVID BEFORE you enable trunking. Otherwise, you WILL BE LOCKED OUT.

Summary:
- Do not enable Trunking on the bridge unless you configure all the LANs (lan1-4) for vlan1 with PVID first under the vlan filtering section. This is guaranteed to lock you out otherwise.
- If you have real vlans (excluding vlan1) they must be added to the vlan filtering area at the top, then all the other vlan1 ports below that. It will not work otherwise. Note: Looks like this may be fixed in the next release. EDIT: This has indeed been fixed in the next release.
- You can still obtain a proper trunk port with Trunking disabled on the bridge. This allows for a bit simpler configuration under vlan filtering. ie. You don't need to assign vlan1 w/PVID to each lan port as it's automatic.

So I switched from Chromium to Epiphany and that immediately did away with the GUI crashes. Amazing, how bad these browsers can be(have).
Thanks for repeating this much heard advice.

I haven't had these type of problems before at all. I was using Chromium, because it has 'Save WE page', saving GUI pages as single HTML files, which is good for documentation. Firefox for other browsing.

Epiphany is now the third internet browser open on my workstation. I should try to clean out Chromium to make it work again, because saving GUI settings as HTML pages is very helpful.

I have heard about Pale Moon, but it's not in the Linux Mint software repositories. Perhaps from an independent source.

I generally do not have an issue with Firefox ESR on Linux, but:

It was also very odd to notice that even though I rebooted the router from the GUI in Chromium several times, the uptime info was not reset to 0. Only when I rebooted the router from the SSH session, did the router apparently really start up again and the uptime was reset.

I have deleted all kinds of cached info that Chromium offers to delete, but it didn't seem to help. Only closing the GUI page in Chromium allowed Epiphany to have stable interaction with the router.

Chrome (Versie 136.0.7103.92 (Officiële build) (64-bits)) was behaving horribly with dd-wrt gui pages after upgrading to 61201. Crashing httpd and so slow, that stuff on a Gui page that would normally be hidden was shown for some time before it would disappear again. Action buttons (+) or (-) had also become almost invisible.
Cleaning history, rebooting etc. was no help... After trying out Epiphany, which was OK and a relief, I decided to try Firefox (138.0.1 (64-bits)) again, from which I had moved to Chrome some time ago. This time FF behaved very well. Then I finally downloaded Palemoon and found my way around in setting it up on Linux/LMDE.
As long as Chrome doesn't have any dd-wrt GUI page open, gui pages are fine and dandy in both FF and Palemoon. Exit Chrome ...
I would never have believed a common browser can be so nasty even though I've read the warnings now and then. Nothing this strange ever happened before. There's no telling what triggered it all of a sudden.

ArjenR49 Its been known, for a long time that, Chromium based browsers are not 'Ideal' for
DDWRT GUI...and its have been discussed many, many times which browsers are advised..
FFx portable, Pale-moon and ect...non-chromium based browsers...

In fact, to me... Chrome is not good browser at all...for anything... except if you are web designer and want to check compatibility of your page or similar... In terms of security I've abandoned Chrome 15 years ago.. ~ Im mostly FFx (with hardening) user but,
I have a spare browser for fun (Opera GX)..
anyway new build came out...61238 and probb more will follow Razz lots of DSA WIP

I have used Chrome for months with dd-wrt gui and had no problems with crashing httpd or slowness in loading pages. The reason why I months ago moved from FF to Chrome was because of the Save WE Page extension, which is very good for documenting dd-wrt settings in a single html file for each tab.

Then suddenly after the upgrade of my R7800 from 60771 to 61201 a day or so ago it was like an earthquake had happened. httpd crashing at just about every move in the GUI and after restarting httpd some GUI pages showed stuff that shouldn't be there because the corresponding feature was in the disabled state. Deleting cached browser info made no difference.

My workstation is an Intel NUC 10i5 with 16 GB of RAM running LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition, Faye) and wired ethernet connection to the router. Not the latest, but fast enough for government use I might jokingly say.

Today I uninstalled Chrome as I am indeed not in the business of testing web pages in common browsers.
PaleMoon and Firefox is the ticket now. No idea who might be to blame for the crashes, but I need dd-wrt more than I do Chrome Wink

Oh, BTW, the latest DD-WRT build works great on my R7800. Thanks!
