Maybe anyone who understands how the process works can explain/teach/enlighten the unknown with some details on why any usb should be unplugged whether or not usb boot is enabled.
That would really be appreciated.
I also had a storage device connected on my previous routers and never had any issues.
yep not bad...idea..
I just wonder, if i can flash the router from /OPT while mounted..(just dont have time atm)...
I also did that in the past...as my 1043v2 had no free ram...for CLI update...and it was ok for years ...
p.s. when CLI flashing WRX36 it was saying 'scanning for UBI, UBI found writhing linux' or something like... _________________ Atheros

Maybe be a good idea for this information about removing a mounted USB drive before upgrading gets written in the wiki, as I hadn't read all this thread and wasn't aware of this issue until it was to late as I feel its quite important information. Save other members bricking theirs.

If you leave the USB failsafe boot command in place, then this may cause issues as has already been discussed and repeated by @ho1Aetoo above. Grinding an imaginary axe over user-induced issues is moot.

Not sure if this is an issue, I've noticed in the logs a yellow warning before the time is up:
Code:
Jan 1 00:00:22.897 Main kern.warn kernel: [ 22.888808] nss_vlan_mgr_port_vsi_update[1218]:ffffff80181f8300: failed to delete egress vlan translation while joining bridge for port: 1, error: -12

lan 4 is the trunk port, it carries vlan1, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7
lan 4 is unbridged
Everything works as expected just wondered if this should be displayed in logs or I have a configuration error?
Added: Does anybody know if the USB issue causing crash during flash has been addressed?
I removed it again while upgrading to -r60742 _________________ Main Router: Dynalink WRX36, PPPoE, Gateway Mode, Network IPV4 - Isolated Vlan's. Unifi AC-Pro x 3 AP's, Router Wi-Fi Disabled. I haven't had such an issues...but...i do unmount my USB and i dont have the recovery file on it...
Im currently stacked on 60791 and im away of that unit ATM...
I guess the only help will be a serial output when you flash it..via GUI..so it will show off the bug's ... and BS can look at it and mend it after... _________________ Atheros

I'd suggest to wget or curl the file to /tmp/firmware.bin and go make a sammich or have a smoke or five. Seems to be the only reliable method as we cannot see what anyone having issues is actually doing.
This is the basic command to run in the CLI (ssh terminal). Find a man page for curl if you want fancy things like time limits. No problem putting it on one line without any \ of course. Backslashes are just continuation characters that give me a little control over where the line is split in the display here.
And yes, do it in ssh. Don't try this on the GUI Commands page, as it can do unpredictable things to commands. _________________ On 59582: 2x Dynalink DL-WRX36, Linksys MX4200v2, MR7350. DNSmasq manages that plus ad blocking and local DNS.

Do you own this router... Im asking, as to me its interesting how CLI normal flash defers from the method you suggested... ??? (for the record i know this way of flashing)
I stopped doing normal CLI flash, as the router every time was oddly reporting out of mem while CLI flashed it...despite it was reporting out of mem, flashing was ok (all those few times i did it)...but i stop doing so and moved to GUI flash..ever since up to 60791 i have had no problems with GUI flashing it... In general webflash file is quite big...but even thou this unit has 1gig ram so out of ram is very peculiar report...may be BS has to increase the size of the temp folder ??
It seams stalonge, foz111 and SurprisedItWorks already reported problems while GUI flashing...so I wonder if my ll survive the GUI flash on the next builds once im back...after 2 weeks... _________________ Atheros
