Use your imagination, or find someone that has the soldering skills.

Take a look at http://www.instructables.com/id/E30LR180T4EWP872BS/ its not as bad as you think.

reading below,

[Well, we've settled on what seems to be the best CFE...from a WRT54GS v.3. It flashes in and accepts tftp with no modifications. I'm now waiting on Tornado to play with it and the original wholeflash, and send me some stuff to test. I know he's been busy, so it may be a while before I get any more.

Am just reading all this for the first time so am I understanding you can load the CFE from a GS v3 with tftp that it will work without a JTAG? I just bought one new on EBAY and want to try but have never used a JTAG since my eyes are too bad to do the soldering.

THANKS in advance

i finally broke down and built a jtag cable... i want ddwrt but i cant wait for the non jtag solution for the wrt54g-tm.

i got the cable up and running with the router (for the most part, i need to use the /noemw for it to not freeze up). right now i am doing a whole flash backup, and will then do a CFE back up.

but once thats over, what do i do to get ddwrt back on? is there a new CFE i need to flash, or is there an entire BIN file that i can flash, or is tftp faster?

i would appreciate it.

EDIT: from the post above me, it seems i need a cfe from a WRT54GS v.3.

where do i get the firmware to get the CFE from? how do i extract it? what do i do after i extract it? is the CfE the only thing i need to reflash or are there other things i cant do via TFTP?

never mind, i eventually figured it out. i formatted the CFE, NVRAM, KERNEL in that order

i used a custom CFE that i found on a link somewhere in these forums (sorry, don't have the specific link) and used the NVRAM that came with it... from there i was able to tftp a ddwrt mini build and then did a web UI upgrade to the v23 sp2.

i have the best firmware around on my t mobile hotspot at home router!

-- i know this isint the best place to do this, but to all the devs behind DDWRT: THANKS sOOOOOOO MUCH. The immense power behind your firmware is absolutely amazing. thanks for making such a kick ass piece of software for FREE!

I saw in the downloads that there is a DD-WRT v24 RC6.2/Broadcom/Linksys/WRT54G-TM section. Are these what we have been waiting for to update the wrt54g-tm?

Any progress on the non-jtag solution? I need to use the bluetooth coexistence mode in dd-wrt because i want to be able to use ad2p and not miss calls/emails/msgs.

I just joined these boards so I could post here. Any progress on the non-jtag solution? I'm *very* interested in getting dd-wrt running on my virgin WRT54G-TM, but I'm no good at electronics.

HI Guys!. I'm interested in the Linksys WRT54G-TM also.

I ordered some second hand WRT54GS REV 1.0 's from the UK, but after waiting 21 days I am afraid they have been lost in the mail. :(

So I am now looking to purchase again a Linksys WRT54Gxxx that has the 32MB Ram / 8MB Flash like the early GS models had.

I also wish to get something that can be powered by 12VDC for our radio sites and has the same RP-TNC removable antenna connectors as we have already bought adapters etc.

Once these -TM routers are flashed / upgraded, even if by the Jtag method, can they ever be reset back into the old firmware?

I don't mind putting the time into using JTag but not if they can then be reset back to square one at some stage if a hard reset etc is needed.

Once they are flashed to DD-wrt do they stay that way?

Can the SD/MMC card mod be done to these?

Do you get full use of the 32Meg Ram? Or is half disabled?

Are the antenna's removable and the connectors RP-TNC?

TNX 4 any info!

from what i've seen, you can not go back to the original CFE, it doesn't work anymore, i don't know if the original firmware can be used under different CFE

once you reflash the CFE, and the firmware, it stays that way, it will not magically revert back to its original condition

yes

I've had no problem flashing the original CFE back onto the WRT54G-TM and tftp the Linksys firmware back on. Just make sure you have a good backup of the original CFE.

Excellent!

Oh I don't ever want the thing to go back to the old firmware.

So thats great.

I had some bad experiences with WRT54GP2 's that would revert back to locked after a hard reset and you couldn't flash them or anything!. :(

well guys, I had someone in the USA ring T-Mobile.

You can get these for US$60 each! And there is a $60 cash back offer! So they are free!,.

You have to wait 4-6 weeks for the cash back, but still. Sounds excellent!.

Start collecting them! I can do with a few here in Australia! hehe!.

So whats the simplest method currently to get DD-WRT on them?

And do they run as good / fast with the combined CPU design as the eairlier GS series?

How about sensativity of RX? Is that better then the early GS Rev 1.0 's?
